‘Monsters’ Exploits Menendez Murders For Guilty Pleasure Entertainment

If O.J. Simpson hadn’t been charged in a double murder case, the Menendez murder case would’ve been the trial of the century. The case had so much going for it that it seemed to attract the sensationalized infotainment world that had erupted in the last quarter of the 20th Century. In Dumb and Dumber, peopleContinue reading “‘Monsters’ Exploits Menendez Murders For Guilty Pleasure Entertainment”

John Ashton, Always A Character Actor, But Never A Star

Being a character actor in Hollywood is a job with its rewards and perks but also one of hardships. By the time, John Ashton appeared in the blockbuster Beverly Hills Cop, he had been working on TV shows and movies for over a decade. His most famous work up until then was as Dennis Quaid’sContinue reading “John Ashton, Always A Character Actor, But Never A Star”

Happy Birthday, President Carter

One of my favorite stories of President Jimmy Carter is when I was having to go cover a press conference at Georgia Southwestern State University. It was one of those nice Spring afternoons and I was glancing out the window because you don’t want to be inside when I heard the doors open and IContinue reading “Happy Birthday, President Carter”

Please Help Hurricane Relief If You Can

As the last remnants of Hurricane Helene dissipate, I can consider myself lucky. Not lucky that I’m about a good 1,000 miles from the major damage, but lucky I’m not on the road right now because a friend or family member was seriously hurt or died. As of this posting, CNN is reporting there areContinue reading “Please Help Hurricane Relief If You Can”

Final Bow For Dame Maggie Smith

You could probably survey 100 people at random on what they most remember Dame Maggie Smith for and you’d probably get dozens of responses. Smith, who died on Sept. 27 at the age of 89, had a body of work many actors would dream of. It is hard to summarize her work with just aContinue reading “Final Bow For Dame Maggie Smith”

‘Dragon Teeth’ Has Some Bite, Yet The Story Feels Undercooked

When Michael Crichton passed away in 2008, he left behind several novels, some unfinished, but some of them weren’t published during his lifetime for a reason. Crichton still needed and wanted to fix them up some more. Stephen King has talked about how he lets a manuscript’s first draft “marinate.” He’ll forget about it forContinue reading “‘Dragon Teeth’ Has Some Bite, Yet The Story Feels Undercooked”

‘Superman III’ A Crazy Superhero Movie With Elements Of Pure Terror

Every now and again, a movie comes along that seems so basic but it has one scene of true terror and WTF outrageousness. Take Pee-wee’s Big Adventure where the titular character takes a ride with a trucker named Large Marge. And she begins to tell a horror story. Then, flashes a gruesome face at him.Continue reading “‘Superman III’ A Crazy Superhero Movie With Elements Of Pure Terror”

Hope Everyone Is Safe In The South

I hope everyone in the southeastern part of the United States is safe as Hurricane Helene comes up through the Gulf Coast and is expected to travel north along the Georgia/Alabama border and hit the Tennessee Valley area and parts of Lower Appalachia. They’re saying wind gusts in the metro-Atlanta area could reach up toContinue reading “Hope Everyone Is Safe In The South”

‘Gary’ A Profile Of One Who Was Loved By Fans But Abused By Loved Ones

If Gary Coleman stood six-feet tall, it’s highly unlikely so many people would’ve taken advantage of him as much. Even if he was 5-foot-6, it’s quite possible people would’ve thought differently or at least given it a second thought. But Coleman never grew taller than 4-foot-8. Even Danny DeVito is taller. Peter Dinklage is onlyContinue reading “‘Gary’ A Profile Of One Who Was Loved By Fans But Abused By Loved Ones”
