I know the economy is bad but are people really so desperate one cent will break them? Every now and again, I’ll see these outrageously not-so-cheap bargains at stores. I saw a five-cent discount on Folgers coffee at a Dollar General.
This is from Reasor’s in Tahlequah. Started as a regional family-owned store, it’s now owned by Brookshire out of Texas. I prefer shopping here more over Wal-Mart unless I can get some items cheaper.
I can understand items being sold for 20 cents cheaper or more as a weekly sale. But this reminds me of those old ads MAD magazine would publish where they had three offers on subscriptions. Two would be reasonable deals and the third was a joke where they’d take a nickel off and then tell you not to be a schmuck or something and choose one of the other deals. I’ve always wondered if someone actually took the nickel discount.
I understand grocery stores usually do something like this for inventory and tax write-off reasons. But the crazy part is the $6.98 special only applies to the four-count. The eight-count Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches are like $11.98 or so you’re save a couple of bucks to get it cheaper that way.
