With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

I didn’t have Spider-Man (or at least a person dressed up as Spidey) punching and attacking Jake Lang in Minneapolis on my 2026 Bingo card. But here we are.

People like Lang are nothing more than rabble rouser on the far-right. He’s also one of the pardoned Jan. 6 insurrection coup attempt rioters. I’m a First Amendment supporter.

But if you choose to be a racist, bigot, sexist, homophobe, transpose, and/or misogynists, don’t be surprised when someone doesn’t want to hear it. My first year in college some Christian evangelist was on the campus of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga. ranting and raving. Supposedly, he noticed a young woman who was dressed in a way he felt was inappropriate and he said some derogatory words toward her. And her boyfriend or male companion with her decided he heard enough and went over and punched him pushing him down.

Campus police wasn’t called. Eyewitnesses say the evangelist just stood back up, collected himself, and went on preaching. And the couple went on their way. It happens. Freedom of speech doesn’t protect you from insulting people.

People like Lang hide behind the First Amendment whenever it’s on their side but act like it should only apply to themselves. Lang has already been arrested for the riot and he’s probably happy about it. He thinks he’ll get a slap on the wrist.

Not always. I’m not advocating violence but you get what you give sometimes. The image brings up the iconic photo of Captain America punching Hitler. Life imitates art I guess.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
