Too Soon For School?

Most school districts have started their academic school years this week. At one point, summer ran all the way until after Labor Day Weekend.

But with 100 degree temperatures in many parts of the country, is it too soon to send some students back? Air conditioning units have to run longer adding to the overhead of the districts’ individual budgets.

People say that shorter summers help the students retain the information they were taught the previous year. But then again the districts are not willing to adjust the start times as students at different ages have better cognitive skills earlier in the morning while wirh others, it’s later in the morning.

I don’t have kids of my own in school so I haven’t experienced the pros and cons first hand.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
