RIP To Wings Hauser

Some actors you may only recognize from their face. Wings Hauser was one of those actors. Of course, if you’re a fan of Yellowstone, you might say he looks like Rip Wheeler, the character played by Cole Hauser, his son.

It does seem Cole has had a more prosperous career appearing in classic movies like Dazed and Confused and Oscar-winners like Good Will Hunting, but Wings made a name for him in crucial roles in critically acclaimed movies like A Soldier’s Story as an Army lieutenant expected of killing Adolph Caesar’s character. He also appeared briefly in The Insider as a lawyer for Brown and Williamson who tries to intimidate Dr. Jeffrey Wigand (Russell Crowe) for giving a disposition.

But mostly it seemed he appeared in low-budget movies like Vice Squad or Tales from the Hood, where he plays a racist police officer. His last film role was in 2010’s Rubber which is about a rubber tire that kills people and animals.

On TV, he made a bigger name as Greg Foster on The Young and the Restless or as Lt. Col. Mac Miller on China Beach. He would also appear briefly on Roseanne as a new neighbor to the Conners.

Hauser suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for years and had to be on oxygen prior to his death on March 15 at the age of 77.

What was your favorite role of his? Please comment.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
