Happy Halloween, Everyone!

I just want to wish everyone a very Happy Halloween today. Please be safe and have some good safe fun. Thanks again for reading and subscribing. I’ve had a lot of traffic and new subscribers this month and I greatly appreciate it very, very much.

What’s your favorite movie?

I have a few recommendations:

  • Session 9 (2001) – This was actually filmed at the now-demolished Danvers State Hospital in the greater Boston area. It’s about strange events surrounding an asbestos removal crew. The cast includes David Caruso, Peter Mullan and Josh Lucas.
  • The Changeling (1980) – This Canada production stars George C. Scott as a musical instructor at a college who recently lost his wife and daughter in a traffic accident. He moves into an old home where a lot of strange things happen. Melvin Douglas co-stars.
  • The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949) – While the first half is a retelling of The Wind in the Willows narrated by Basil Rathbone, the second half is an adaptation of Washington Irvin’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” It’s narrated and sung by Bing Crosby. It blends humor with frights.
  • The Village (2004) – M. Night Shymalan’s first misstep was poorly received, but it was marketed as a creature feature. It’s actually a story about the lengths some people will go through to have a “safer” environment. It has an all-star cast consisting of Bryce Dallas Howard, Adrien Brody, Joaquin Phoenix, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Jesse Eisenberg, Brendan Gleeson and Judy Greer.
  • The Exorcist III (1990) – William Peter Blatty helms an adaptation of his novel, Legion, which was never really supposed to be connected to The Exorcist movies but the studio required reshoots. Scott returns replacing Lee J. Cobb as Lt. William F. Kinderman whose investigation into murders that are similar to an executed killer have him discovering evil things in a mental hospital in Washington D.C. The movie contains one of the best jump scares ever and even earns it.
  • Criminal Minds “Mr. Scratch” (2015) – The show had many disturbing episodes that it led to Mandy Patinkin to leave the series after a couple of seasons. There were episodes in which Brad Dourif played a man who turned people into human marionettes and Jamie Kennedy played a psychotic who actually fed the dead body of reported missing person to the people who were doing a mass search. But the April 22, 2015 episode of “Mr. Scratch” directed by series regular Matthew Gray Gubler, who played Dr. Spencer Reid, is one of the best and scariest things shown on network TV. A killer puts people under psychotic suggestion using a drug causing them to kill others unknowingly. It’s disturbing. It’s scary and you’ll never thing a crayon drawing could look so terrifying while so simplistic.

What are your favorite scary movies or TV shows? Please comment.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
