Cyndi Munson Meets Tahlequah Area Residents

I’ve been covering politicians and elected officials for years and sometimes they are running behind. Thankfully, Cyndi Munson, the Democrat nominee for Oklahoma governor, didn’t make people wait hours.

But even when she arrived a few minutes after 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, she was welcomed with a lot of applause. And I think she was surprised to see such a big turnout at the Tahlequah City Library in the adjacent Carnegie Room. Many people, including myself, were having to stand in the back.

I only could stand for about 10-15 minutes before I had to leave as my back and legs couldn’t keep me bipedal much longer. I meant no disrespect but I’m just hoping there is enough supporters to make her the next governor.

Munson has been serving in the Oklahoma House of Representatives since 2015 and had been the House Minority Leader since 2022. She said it was a bittersweet campaign as it’s her last year in the state House. Oklahoma legislators can only serve 12 years either in the state house and/or state senate.

Hopefully she’ll win the election and be sworn in after the first of 2027. While we were waiting, a member of the Cherokee County Democrat Party said there has been support from Republican voters.

Munson’s Republican challenger is Mike Mazzei who was the former Secretary of Budget under current Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt. From whst I’ve heard from conservatives and Republicans here, they’re not too satisfied with Mazzei. While some don’t like him, they said they can’t support or vote for any Democrat.

This just shows you how people can make things worse for others just on outdated principles. I think there is some sexism as women have to more or less part the Red Sea. Munson has been going around the state since winning the primaries meeting with people.

She made a mention that Mazzei hasn’t. And she’s correct. Mazzei is probably hoping his endorsement from the current President is all he needs. But that hasn’t been too popular here lately, thankfully.

Hopefully with the destruction of data centers in Russia removes some of the dangerous AI social media accounts spreading disinformation.
