To be honest, no tears will be shed much over Dennis Hastert, especially as more details emerge now that he’s dead.
Hastert, a Republican from Illinois, served as the Speaker of the House for eight years beginning in January 1999 and ending in January 2007. He was the second in succession to the Presidency. And after he left office, reports came out he had sexually assaulted teenage boys when he was a high school teacher and wrestling coach at Yorkville High School in Yorkville, Ill.
But he never seved a day in prison for admitting it. The statute of limitations had expired. He did serve 15 months in federal prison in a hush money case related to the sexual abuse of at least 4 boys as young as 14.
Let me remind you all that at this same time, President Bill Clinton had been impeached for consensual sex with Monica Lewinsky. Clinton was impeached by the House on Dec. 19, 1998 when Newt Gingrich was Speaker and acquitted on Feb. 12, 1999. Gingrich was having an affair during the investigation and impeachment with his current wife Callista, while he was married to his second wife, Marianne Ginther. And Hastert was a child molester.
Yes, Clinton shouldn’t have been having an affair with Lewinsky. But a lot of people in Congress have had extramarital affairs. Yet while Clinton was facing impeachment, the second person to succeed him was a fucking hypocrite and a fucking federation.
Now the current President has done far worse than Clinton, Gingrich and Hastert combined.
