As America’s 250th celebration has been mostly lackluster, people should be reminded that only for 106 years, women were allowed the rights to vote. But I’m sure there was some resistance even after .
The photo years ago of the current President looking over at his wife as they were about to vote should be a warning that just because it’s in the Constitution doesn’t mean there isn’ a lot of grey areas and loopholes. The push by him and Republicans to approve the SAVE Act might seem responsible to anyone who clearly doesn’t understand that it can strip many women of their voting rights.
Ask yourself why are so many elected officials doing everything they can to keep people from voting? Mail-in ballots and early voting are being attacked. My ex had health issues so we were able to get her a mail-in ballot for the 2018 general election. She had to sign it and I was one of the witnesses. Our next-door neighbor was the other one. She also had to submit a photocopy of her driver’s license.
Why would millions of people go through all this trouble to vote illegally? Well, they don’t. There have been very few cases of voter fraud and most have been committed by registered Republican voters. Even when I vote in person, I present my DL and sign. Why would I do this illegally especially when the Election Board has my name and address?
We have a system in place that prevents voter fraud at a very positive level. On the other hand, we have a computer system that is questionable about how it tallies the votes. And sometimes the ballots are questionable. Look at the Florida ballots in 2000. Why would something be so confusing in 2000 unless the idea was to trick people? Also when you have the secretary of the state of Florida whose job is overseeing the election also being involved in George W. Bush’s campaign, that’s a huge conflict of interest that should be illegal.
Maybe the Democrats should have pushed it harder in 2024 that Trump won all the swing states even though Democrats won in other races in those states. With his approval rating at an all-time lowest, the next 10 weeks should be a very interesting one.
Just remember that a lot of women and men spent years (decades even) wanting everyone to have the right to vote. You’re allowed to vote for whatever candidate you want. But once they take away the women’s votes, they won’t stop. It’ll go back to just white men and then just white men who are property owners.
If you think women should only vote how their husbands and fathers want them to, that’s your right. But not everyone will agree with you. As tradtional wives, or trad wives, are becoming popular, someone said these women are just one bad argument away from being homeless.
