Could Burnham Be The U.K.’s Lucky Seventh PM In A Decade?

Let’s be honest and no cheating, can you name all Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom?

It’s ok. Neither can I without Googling it? Remember that Simpsons episode where Barney and Wade Boggs debate over the best PM ever. Barney likes Lord Palmerston while Boggs’ choice is Pit the Elder. Well they could have a debate over the last 10 years because the U.K. had had seven PMs.

Just for reference, the United States has had seven Presidents dating all the way back to “that sumbitch Reagan.” (I’m into account the current’s first term even though it wasn’t consecutive.) First it was Theresa May whose photo while visiting some school children looks like something Monty Python would’ve done.

Then there was Boris Johnson from 2019 to 2022. Johnson was a controversial subject who looked like he was doing a poor imitation of Benny Hill.

Then there was the seven weeks of Liz Truss in the Fall of 2022. The Economist questioned whether she would outlast the shelf life of a head of lettuce. After Truss, there was Rishi Sunak. Next was Keir Starmer.

They’re not all memorable like Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher or even Neville Chamberlain. But how could they be when one doesn’t last 50 days. Seven weeks used to be the wait time back in the day whenever you ordered something.

Burnham is the leader of the Labour Party and hopes to bring some stability. But as he’s just checked in at 10 Downing Street, let’s hope his stay is longer than a head of lettuce on the shelf.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
