Well, my disability claim has been remanded on appeal for the third time, which means I’ll have a fourth hearing sometime between now and this time next year.
Just FYI, when I began this journey, my mother was still alive, so was my girlfriend. I’ve had two serious relationships end, lost most of my furbabies and even had to go through Covid pandemic even though I never really got it as far as I know.
I don’t know if the government is trying to see if I’ll swerve first on the chicken run but they don’t know me too well. I have nothing else to do but ride this thing out to the very end.
It sucks that in “the greatest country in the end,” I and many others have to go through such hurdles and obstacles even though many of us don’t know from one to another (or one hour to another), how we’re going to be feeling. I had to lie in bed for an hour earlier and when the pain eased enough for me to get around, I had to get some DVDs that accidentally fell behind a dresser that I need to take back to the library.
It was a simple task that would’ve taken me a minute literally years ago. But suddenly my lower back began to lock up and hurt, after I got them, I had to go lie back down for a few more minutes. One simple task can ruin your day or weekend.
July is Disability Awareness Month and like most with disabilities, we tend to forget it’s a thing. I’ve written previous posts about the dangers of “inspiration porn.” It presents a toxic positivity that disabled people need a little ” Can-Do Attitude” to get them motivated.
And of course, there is the “SuperCrip” stereotypes. You know, the news stories and social media posts about someone who is blind or a quadriplegic and they managed to save a baby from the top floor of a 10-story building fire.
Yet we tell young athletes they probably won’t get full scholarships to big universities. And if they do, they probably won’t go pro. Even still if they play professionally, they won’t have a big career lasting many years.
However, a paraplegic who had both hands amputated graduated summa cum laude earning five degrees. This also affects able-bodied people because it puts those with disabilities up on a pedestal. Not everyone will be able to accomplish the same tasks.
Anyway, I’m hoping the third remand might be the charm. I’m not sure which judge I will receive. But the first one was a controversial one as he added his own opinions. I feel my case has become a case of CYA for the judges. They don’t want to admit the judge’s ruling was wrong.
But hopefully, we can reach a settlement so I won’t have to wait for another hearing to be scheduled and wait for another decision.
