Suppose They Gave A Narcissistic Octogenarian A Party And No One Cared

Alright, show of hands, who all knew the Freedom 250 events would focus solely on the President and the President only. It’s even funny how some people are blaming the initially announced musical acts cowering to their fans and pulling out.
Yeah, the nerve, huh?
I mean with musical acts canceling concert tours left and right because prices are too high, how dare they alienate their fans more by partaking in the very partisan one-sided event. Maybe they learned the lesson from the comics who performed at the Riyadh Comedy Festival. If people have learned anything Lauryn Hill, it’s you can’t keep screwing over fans and keep expecting them to turn out in droves.
There seems to be a major pushback that has been long overdue against celebrities who only read their good press. Both Kevin Costner and his stalled western saga Horizon and J. Lo and her continued “I’m just Jenny from the block” bullshit has been a sign that celebrities have been crapping too long where they eat.
Following the Watergate scandal, there was Tall Ships that sailed during the Bicentennial Celebrations in 1976. Now, we have a foolish UFC event. Of course this wouldn’t have happened if Kamala Harris (or anyone else) had won in 2024.
But this isn’t about America, it’s about the President as the UFC event is scheduled for his birthdays on June 14. As of this posting rain is in the forecast for D.C.
At the same time, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is shaping up to be one of the worst if not the worst. A lot of players and officials have been barred from even entering the United States, where many cities and businesses were expecting an economic boom.
But ticket prices are too high and so are hotel rates. These are times when people need to read the room. It sucks because this was supposed to be a very historical moment for the World Cup. While most of the games will be played in U.S. cities, others will be played in Vancouver and Toronto in Canada and Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterey in Mexico.
At the same time, the U.S. is celebrating a 250th anniversary that many have lost interest in.
I think again this is because of the President and his ties to FIFA. I mean a FIFA World Peace Prize? It makes you wonder what FIFA, which has been plagued with controversies and scandals for decades, is really getting out of this. Even when someone is given the “Key to the City” they must have done something to improve the community. This was just a one-off participation trophy.
The other day I was talking with a teller at my bank about how they had Bicentennial quarters released in 1976 and people collected them. Yet there are no quarters for the 250th but the President’s mug is going to be on a $250 dollar bill. I don’t think people will be collecting them.
If people are lucky they may be able to use one for a nose bleed seat to a World Cup game.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
