Now that ‘Euphoria’ is over surprising fans, series regular Sydney Sweeney can go on to other things, even if people don’t like her. Personally, I don’t see the big issue. She did an ad for American Eagle with a play on the words “genes” and “jeans.” But let’s face it, American Eagle caters to a certain demographic anyway so what’s the big deal? But what’s pissed people off is Sweeney’s refusal to apologize for something she didn’t do. I went to school with four people who are in prison for murder. So should I apologize for that? Following rhe ad, there was so much hatred for her that people were looking at lack of success in her movies. But then ‘The Housemaid’ made over $400 million worldwide and she signed on for a sequel. So basically going into this movie now there is really no threat of what happens to her character because she survives. But if you’re expecting a modern day version of ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,’ watch the remake with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Maika Monroe. I really can’t tell if this is supposed to be serious or a tongue-in-cheek parody like ‘A Deadly Adoption’ with Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. Paul Feig is the director and he mostly directs comedies and both Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are great in comedies. Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, who is down on her luck and on parole, when she interviews for a job with Nina Winchester (Seyfried) as a live-in maid at their mansion in the affluent neighborhoods on Long Island. But things are off from the start. Nina’s husband, Andrew (Brandon Skienar), acts like he knows nothing about Millie coming there. Her room looks almost isolated from the rest of the house with a window that won’t open. And then Nina begins to exhibit behaviors that are very disturbing as she falsely accuses Millie of doing thing like misplacing a speech she was going to deliver and making ticket reservations for Broadway, even though we all see her tell Millie to make the reservations. There’s the obligatory creepy landscaper, Enzo (Michele Morrone), who actually knows more and Andrew’s mother, Evelyn (Elizabeth Perkins) can’t find one good thing to say about anyone but her son. Of course this leads to Andrew and Millie having sex when they take a getaway to Manhattan for the Broadway show. SPOILERS AHEAD! (But you probably already guessed.)It’s all a ruse by Nina because Andrew is a psychotic abusive control freak and likes blondes. Nina isn’t a natural blonde. So, she chose Millie purposely for Andrew to dump her for Millie. It’s not a good movie but since it plays the tropes so well, it’s worth sitting through once.
