Sydney Sweeney Not Playing Into Their Reindeer Games And Good For Her

I’m trying to change up the content on my blog but there are a few things recently that have pissed me off.

First off is how people are trying to make Sydney Sweeney out to be a white supremacist just because people think there’s more meaning to an American Eagle advertisement she did earlier this year. It’s a play on how “genes” and “jeans” sound alike. People have been fantasizing over Sweeney so much she’s making some money with this fascination.

But if this had been her Euphoria co-star Zendaya, people would’ve been angry at it too. Yet most of the general public don’t care because they’re not stupid. And in a baited unfair question during an interview with GQ, she was asked about what people thought of the ad and didn’t respond the way the reporter wanted. Ergo, that means she’s a Nazi sympathizer now. Anyone with common sense can tell the ad wasn’t intended to support eugenics. So, asking her a question about what other think about something that it isn’t is foolish. It’s like asking a new mom why she doesn’t feed her child motor oil. Technically, you can feed it to a child…once.

They even asked Zohran Mamdani, the Mayoral-elect for New York City, why he actually visited veterans on Veterans Day instead of marching in the Veterans Day Parade. It makes no sense. People seem to have lost their damned minds.

And now people are dogging on her because a biopic, Christy, about boxer Christy Martin, has bombed. Well, it didn’t get much promotion or buzz, so naturally it woudn’t do well at the box office. Also, when a movie has a poor opening weekend, some theaters will pull it so of course the second weekend box office will drop.

Ruby Rose said that she was in contention for the role until Sweeney came on board. Who’s Ruby Rose you might ask? She was on one season of Orange is the New Black over 10 years ago and played the titular character in Batwoman which ended about five years ago.

No, I’m sure the story of Martin wouldn’t have even received the financing if Sweeney wasn’t attached to it as she’s more popular right now than Rose. And seriously, why are the media even given attention to people based on hearsay? When I was a reporter and someone said something that was questionable, the first thing I did was to check it out to clarify it.

I think Sweeney’s a good actress myself. And despite what Rose thinks, she’s a supporter of the LGBTQIA community. I really have only seen her in Reality, about Reality Winner, Sharp Objects and Anyone But You. But Ryan Reynolds spent almost 15 years after that Van Wilder movie before he had a hit with Deadpool.

Julia Roberts was going through these same issues 30 years ago. A lot of actors have down periods. People gush over Brendan Fraser, who does seem like a nice guy, even though he’s made some terrible movies. Yet with Sweeney, this behavior is 11th grade Mean Girls behavior.

Jesus, I even saw some people pissed that Taylor Swift hasn’t said or done too much for the people of Palestine. I’m not part of her inner circle but I’m sure she’s busy with releasing a new album as well as some personal time with her fiance Travis Kelce. Also, there’s a lot of other business stuff she has to do so she can’t act like a rabid MAGA person screaming at a someone working the counter at McDonald’s.

Speaking of MAGA, Ari Aster’s Eddington is now on HBO Max. I sat through 20 minutes before I couldn’t watch any further. It’s set during the spring of 2020 and Joaquin Phoenix is a MAGA sheriff who doesn’t think he should wear a mask. I don’t know. I didn’t want to spend two-and-a-half hours watching it. I went through two-and-a-half years of this crap. I also don’t care for Aster who has proven that when he can’t rip off 1970s horror movies, he can’t be successful. Maybe that’s because Robert Eggers keeps ripping off horror by giving Dracula a Yosemite Sam moustache and thinking it’s revolutionary.

I don’t care for Aster, Eggers and Wes Anderson hasn’t made a movie in over 20 years that I feel like watching. I’d rather watch something with Sweeney than the same avant-garde wannabe art house drivel they continue to churn out over and over.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
