Abortion Bills Are About Overthrowing Roe V. Wade

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott seems to be in a pissing contest with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on who can be the biggest asshole during a time when people want real leaders.

Recently, the six-weeks abortion ban bill went into law in Texas. To say that people like Abbott and the Texas legislators who proposed and voted on this are thinking of the life of the unborns is pretentious. There are people who are dying of Covid-19 because Abbott, DeSantis, and others do not give a flying fuck about anyone at this point.

They stood behind Trump when things went bad in the Spring of 2020 and never backed down. No, and if they do, it’ll mean they’ve lost face. This is a Hail Mary by Abbott who knows that there is a strong likelihood he’ll be voted out in 2022. After the year Texas has had, I’m not sure too many more want four more years of it. They still got four more months and anything is possible.

These bills passed in Texas and my native state of Georgia and other states only have one goal – eventually one of them will have to be appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. And they’re hoping it’ll be sooner than later. Sometimes, it takes years for the SCOTUS to hear it. Five Justices didn’t block it. But what happens if SCOTUS changes before Jan. 2025. Mitch McConnell can’t live forever.

Getting Roe vs. Wade overturned has been the cornerstone of the Republican Party for far too long, it will be their eventual downfall one way or the other. Evangelicals and extreme Christians have such an aversion to abortion, it’s their only raison d’etre. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked by a male reporter how could President Biden support abortion since as a Catholic, he’s supposed to be against it.

It’s funny how religion is always telling you things you shouldn’t do. Of course, Psaki knocked him down saying Biden’s religion isn’t the end-all to making political decisions. She didn’t give him the chance to ask another question. But, everything Christianity is supposed to represent, it doesn’t to these people so willing to scream about the rights of the unborn and nothing else.

Christians don’t take care of each other. Look at how we’ve handled Covid-19. For fuck’s sakes, health professionals in the NICU wards are saying they’re being questioned about “pre-existing conditions” in just born babies who have Covid. Apparently, they don’t care about the lives of children if they’re willing to let them die once they’re born.

All we hear from the conservatives and the religious right is how children shouldn’t have access to healthcare, food stamps, and even free lunches from schools. But go to a fucking church and the first thing they’ll do is stick their hands out for money.

They don’t care about the unborn. They don’t care about the parents. They don’t care about the children.

All the conservatives care about is getting the votes. All the religious people care about is getting politicians to turn America into a Christian theocracy.

But the more both sides do this, the farther they drive people away from them. And if Roe v. Wade is overturned, the Republican Party will never have anything to hold over the extreme Christians ever again. Do you think they would’ve ever supported a President like Trump if it didn’t mean stacking the courts with conservative judge?

In 2004, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series after many years not evening making it there. It was a nice year and season, but no one outside New England cares anymore. Even worse, they ruined a song like “Sweet Caroline.” Look at the Chicago Cubs winning in 2016. It was nice and every celebrated, but no one cares anymore.

Actress Susan Lucci became more famous from the fact that she had never won a Daytime Emmy for her work after 18 nominations. She won in 1999, but hasn’t won since even though getting nominated.

We’re living in the digital information age. It’s getting harder and harder to hide the real facts from people. What’s going to happen the next time a Republican politician thinks he can flash that Get Out of Jail Free card? And I say “he” because the people who support this law want only men in office, white Christian men.

The Moral Majority grew out of racism and segregation instead of opposition to abortion. Bob Jones University didn’t want to integrate its students and the Moral Majority was formed in the 1970s to counter-act the forced integration. The only problem was Christian leaders didn’t want to show they were racist and bigots so they chose abortion as their objective, even though many politicians and religious officials didn’t say much about it.

The Republican Party and the Moral Majority in the last 50 years have always been about racism and exclusion. And they’re both concerned with having total power. It’s funny how all you hear when they mention the Bible is how wives and children are supposed to be subservient to the male heads of household.

This is why they’re not looking at the more practical ways to curb abortion, through proper sex education and other programs. When I was at Georgia Southern University, you could go into the health clinic and get free condoms. All you had to do was ask. But it’s never an issue for men.

It’s a hell of a lot easier to block a street when it’s only goes one-way, right?

How come there’s no push for men in Texas to get mandatory vasectomies. I mean, I’m not embarrassed to use condoms. I have a fresh box of condoms in my medicine cabinet even though I’m not in a relationship. Nor do I got out and pick up women for one-night stands.

But what’s the big deal? Why are grown men even embarrass to buy condoms? Don’t you dudebros out there want the whole world know you’re getting pussy. You’re rocking out with your cock out. You get more ass than a toilet seat the Monday after Thanksgiving. You’ve had blondes, brunettes, redheads, white, black, Asian, Latinx, indigenous Native Americans and Indian women. Cougars, barely legal, PAWGs and even a transgendered woman has slobbed on your knob.

But…you’re not going to use condoms.

It always comes back to the women. They can’t have access to birth control or the Plan B pill. Some women can’t even have tubal litigation because of their doctors’ opinions.

What’s ironic is hearing some of these crazy Christian women who are upset over the mask mandates screaming “My body, my choice” when it comes to wearing a 35-cent mask on while they’re in public. But they feel a woman who was raped by a family member, neighbor, or co-worker should suffer further degradation by being forced to deliver a child. And don’t even try to discuss sexual assault to these people. They always act like it’s something that happens to other people.

I laugh every time some dudebro or Boomer says something like, “My child would never put themselves in a position to be raped.” So, they shouldn’t go to church, school or report to an office building where they’ll be prey.

If a man thinks he can rape a woman, he’ll rape her. That’s just it.

She can be wearing blue jeans and a sweatshirt and a heavy overcoat in the middle of winter in the frozen tundra of the Upper Midwest. If he thinks he can sexually assault her, he will do it.

So, the only thing I can really tell people is to vote. Vote Abbott out. Vote DeSantis out. Vote out Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp who still thinks it’s funny to aim a gun at a teenage boy. And don’t vote Republican.

Don’t give them anymore power than they should have. They’re all about limited government. What’s more limited than throwing them out of office.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.

  1. We should all be for protecting the most innocent, protecting them, their lives, and the hope of their future. Why many people don’t understand the sanctity of life, protecting little babies, is beyond us. If we want to live, ought we not to protect that in the most innocent?
