With July 4 on a Saturday for America’s 250th celebration and the U.S. this far in the World Cup as everyone seems to love what’s been happening the last few weeks, it should’ve been a greater moment of celebration.
Yet the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair is on its way to being a disaster of epic proportions. Turnout so far has been low which is apparent from the video of people trying to romanticize it. Even the aerial footages looks dull and boring. All I can see there is a Ferris Wheel which has reportedly been malfunctioning.
It doesn’t help that Washington D.C. is having a very bad heat wave as it appears there’s not much shade. I seriously doubt they have set up cooling stations for people. With temperatures expected for the holiday weekend to be at 100 degrees or higher, spending too long outside can be dangerous. I know there are booths representative of many states but what’s the point since a lot of the air conditioning will be going outside. It might provide temporarily relief but heat strokes aren’t a sacrifice for this.
But it just goes to show this administration hasn’t given a flying fuck about regular people. Look at the way Orange Cheato has acted about the Supreme Court saying the Constitution guarantees birthright citizenship. Sean Duffy, Transportation Secretary, called people “libtards” to start the event. His own daughter has Down’s Syndrome. Mango Mussolini has said “Fuck you” to many people here lately with his actions.
It’s not dementia or Alzheimers. He’s just an awful creature.
But we didn’t have to get to this position. There actually was a non-partisan organization formed years ago to make this similar to the Bicentennial if not greater. Of course the question is what happened to all that money? Most towns and communities have put on better fairs with whatever money and supplies they scrape together.
Why would people want to go travel hundreds if not thousands of miles to spend maybe an hour if that there? What can’t be learned about each state through a Google search in the comfort of your own home or at the lake or beach or by the pool?
Instead it seems all geared to be another rally for a man who keeps saying the same old lies over and over. Even Vanilla Ice had his concert canceled for inclement weather that didn’t happen. Maybe it’s because no one was there to really make an impact.
Republicans and conservative news media can and will lie to you but a cell phone video, especially livestreamed on social media, tells the facts clear as day and crystal-clear as Ice.
In 1976, they had Tall Ships in New York harbor. I heard they painted fire hydrants red, white and blue. And then there we were the Bicentennial quarters which became collectors items. There were other events all over the country. Even though it was filmed in 1975, there is a scene in Taxi Driver of a shop proprietor wearing a shirt of Tulane in red, white and blue.
Watergate was finally over with everyone connected (with the exception of Nixon) going to prison or being adjudicated. It felt like the country was trying, amidst the oil crisis, political turmoil and the end of the Vietnam War to heal.
Yet 50 years later, wealth inequality is at its worst ever. The White House wants to strip its own citizens of their rights especially when it comes to voting. While many communities are planning events for the hollday weekend, nothing seems like it’s for the people at the national level. Prices for concessions at the D.C. fair are outrageous. A cheeseburger costs $20 which is more than half you can get at many fast food places. And I’m wondering if they’re even allowing people to bring in bottled water?
Sometimes tells me this is repeat of the Woodstock ’99 fiasco except with less people. Thankfully people can leave easier than at Fyre Festival.
But it’s no surprise this is the result of this administration. I mean going back to 2015-2016, he never wanted to be President. He just wanted money. He wasn’t happy to win.
After the way the military treated him last year on his birthday, they made the foolish UFC event that was supposed to be for the people yet they had to see it on Paramount-Plus right after people canceled because they canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. And not as many people even watched the thing. I didn’t.
But people have gotten exactly what they deserve. I can understand why they voted for him in 2016. But by 2020, it was about saving face. And that’s what it was about in 2024.
They’ll be no quarters to collect. A $250 dollar bill has been proposed and designed. And guess who is on it? But let’s face it, who the hell can blow that much money on something they have to laminate and stick in a security safety box?
Yet they’re will be people out there getting it if it’s put in circulation. Because some people will go all the way to prove they weren’t conned.
