I’d like to express peace and love to the very few who are still alive today who served in Operation Overlord, otherwise known as D-Day.
It was on this date, June 6, in 1944, Allied Forces landed on Nazi-occupied France to take on Nazi Germany. Military stormed the beaches of Normandy. They parachuted over the skies, some landing without their weapons which was lost as recounted in Band of Brothers.
But it was a military campaign to end the War in Europe and less than a year later, it officially ended. Many had trained years since early 1942 for this operation. A lot of them didn’t come home.
But for their efforts, they showed that tyranny and fascism has no place in the world. Decades later, we’re still fighting it.
If we allow it to become a normalcy, we’ve disrespected all what these people fought for. Many had never left their home towns but volunteer to go thousands of miles away knowing they would either die or be seriously injured for the rest of their lives.
We shouldn’t let their sacrifices be in vain.
Thank you to all those that are still alive.
And thank you all who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
