It may be April 1 but this is no joke.
For a while, it really did seem like that’s all, folks, for Coyote vs. Acme the live-action/cartoon animated hybrid feature that has been in limbo for the last two years.
At one point, it was going to meet the same fate as Batgirl and Scoob Holiday Haunt, two movies that Warner Bros. Discovery under the direction of CEO David Zaslav had decided to write off for tax reasons.
But on Monday, Ketchup Entertainment, an independent studio distributor, clinched the deal to distribute the movie at a reported $50 million. Ketchup also has distributed The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which is currently in theaters. Despite critical acclaim and positive word of mouth among fans, the box office return so far has only garnered $10.5 million in the past two weeks.
I was planning to see it last week but I was very sick and spent more time in bed. I didn’t want to spread anything I might have had.
Directed by Dave Green, the film centers on Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for the countless faulty products that have hindered his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner. Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor and Tone Bell star. James Gunn is also reported as a writer on the movie.
While Coyote will see its day in court, it’ll be 2026 before the movie is released in theaters. Let’s hope the buzz on the movie encourages Ketchup to release it by the end of the year.
