Happy Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day! Apparently, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means we have six more weeks of winter weather until the official start of Spring during the Equinox on Thursday, March 20.

However, here in the Tulsa area, it’s in the high 60s with sunny conditions and Monday, Feb. 3 is forecast to have a high of 75 with lots of sun and warmth. Oh, well, that’s Oklahoma weather.

Reportedly, Staten Island Chuck, a woodchuck has a reportedly more accurate 85 percent prediction rate.

What do you think? I believe some animals do have a sixth sense in which they can sense changes in the climate. And as someone who suffers from chronic back pain and osteoarthritis as well as hay fever, I can notice changes in the weather myself when it’s a few days away.

Either way, whoever is right, Phil or Chuck, sometimes we need these idiosyncratic traditions and events to make us enjoy life better and a reminder that not everything should be taken seriously.

What do you think? Please comment.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
