Why People Hate Taylor And Travis (And What It Says About Our Society)

This time last year, a lot of people probably didn’t know who Travis Kelce is. He’s a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Or you may know him as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. They’ve been dating for months, but it’s increased viewership for the Chiefs with the Sept. 10 game against the Chicago Bears getting a reported 24.3 million views . And it’s angered so many people.

But why?

Well, maybe because Swift is one of the most popular entertainers in the world right now. And conservatives and Christians hate celebrities, but only the ones that have a political liberal mentality. They still have Kirk Cameron, Scott Baio, Kristy Swanson, James Woods and Donald J. Trump who was a TV game show host and appeared in movies and commercials as well. I’d hate to make it about politics but the pundits said it first when Jesse Walters of Fox News called Swift an enemy of the people and even accused her of being a Pentagon asset.

Yeah, what? Why? Because Swift is encouraging her fans to vote or register to vote.

It seems all we hear from people is they need to get out and vote but conservatives are afraid that her fans are not going to vote for who they want. Yes, it’s typical conservative Christian hypocrisy. That’s why many red states have been doing everything they can to stop people from voting. Tennessee even has a bill that says if people are forbidden from having a firearm because of past criminal convictions, they can’t vote.

But if Kelce was dating Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) or Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Fox News, OAN and Newsmax would be talking about it a lot more in a positive light. I mean, Kelce is the typical All-American hero. He was the type of person who played a lot of sports when he grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and attended University of Cincinnati. Oh, that’s right, he did a commercial for Pfizer encouraging people to get their Covid vaccines.

If he was someone like Aaron Rodgers who spins conspiracy theories and whacko ideas, they’d love him. And if he was dating Swift, they’d be so happy to see them together. However, Rodgers did date Shailene Woodley, who has more liberal views. But she said they didn’t talk about them much. I guess they must have or else they would be together. I’m no fan of Woodley and her wooden acting, but she can do a lot better than Rodgers. No, Kelce crossed from the All-American Cornfed White Boy (and he has to be white) to Public Enemy No. 1 when he said people should be vaccinated against a disease that has led to millions of deaths in the last four years.

This is nothing new. A long time ago it seems, Carrie Underwood, who seemed to have more conservative views but the most controversial thing she said at the time was she didn’t eat meat, was dating Tony Romo, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Of course, people got mad at Underwood even appearing at the games saying it was distracting Romo. No, Romo was just another football player part of a team. Maybe it’s because the Cowboys didn’t play as good during his tenure.

Yet, another reason the people really hate seeing Swift and Kelce together is they don’t like seeing people being happy in love. A young woman I follow on Instagram started dating a guy and she has thousands of followers. She said she was trying to keep it secret but finally wanted to profess they were together. She said she hopes people wouldn’t stop following her. But why should she say that? Because every guy who follows someone on social media thinks they have a possibility of dating them, just because they follow them and leave comments.

A lot of men don’t know how to talk to women, especially on social media. All you hear is how men want women who are very supportive of them. Well, Swift showing up to cheer her boo on during a game sounds very supportive. However, Swift is very rich and very independent. And there’s one thing men don’t like is a woman who is rich, independent and not pumping out a unit every 18 months or so. No, they want The Handmaid’s Tale. They want someone who will be their mother around the house and a porn star in the bedroom.

Well, my mother made me wash my clothes from an early age. I was also expected to take out the trash, load the dishwasher and unloading and other household chores that people say is “women’s work.” I mean, Swift has had several boyfriends over the years so it’s quite possible they got a little intimate in the bedroom. Who cares who she dates as long as she’s not grooming a middle-school student.

Men are taught, or more I should say criticized, for expressing their love for their spouses and partners. Guys, it’s not going to kill you to tell your girlfriend, partner or spouse that you love them especially out in public or around “the boys.” Underwood said things broke off with Romo because he was more into football than her. And that happens. Yet, Kelce isn’t afraid to kiss Swift in public and hold her.

We need to stop the mentality that people hate seeing PDA (public displays of affection) in public. I’m no fan of public marriage proposals, but I think you need to be with someone who wants to hold your hand in public or give you a kiss. When my parents were still married, my mother and I went to go pick my dad up from the Atlanta airport. This was back when you were allowed to meet people at the gate. I remember there was a man getting off the plane behind my father who extended his arms wide around his partner and held her for minutes. It’s the busiest airport in the world, well maybe not back then, but hundreds of people surrounding them and no force could’ve separated them.

I know many people who don’t like Swift and Kelce worship everything Trump does. And he has no love whatsoever from his wife, Melania. I mean, she literally slapped his hand away when he tried to hold. And judging from the effects of possible syphilis on his hands, I don’t blame her. We’ve seen the video of her smiling at him and then shooting daggers as his back is turn. I’m pretty sure they’ve not had sex since Barron was conceived. Any time you saw hem in public, they looked like strangers who were just seated next to each other.

It wasn’t like when Barack and Michelle Obama would be out in public. Yes, they really did love each other. Another reason conservatives and Christians hated the former President was that he dispelled the myth that black men leave their wife and kids early. They’ve been married since 1992. President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have been married since 1977. Yes, Democrats can make good families too. Look at how long Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were married.

Who knows where this relationship between Swift and Kelce will go? But it’s none of our business really. Let them be happy that they’re in love. I’m always happy for anyone who can find that special person they love. Maye it’s because so many people are in loveless marriages and toxic relationships they can’t get out of, it makes them angry to see someone else happy.

I mean, look all around social media and you see couples professing their love for each other. It’s what people in love do, if they’ve been together for a few months, or a few decades. You want to be with someone who loves you the same as you celebrate 30 years together as you did when you were only together for 30 days.

Maybe it’s because previous generations, people got married because they were forced to. So, they didn’t really like their spouses. For God’s sake, look at what happened to Prince Charles and Diane Spencer. There’s so many outdated jokes about how men hate their wives and how wives treat their husbands like garbage. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy is a totally toxic relationship, but it’s a representation of the times.

And now those times are changing. Couples don’t have to stay together if they don’t get along. And many people in their 30s and 40s are realizing that they don’t need to be with someone to “be complete.” They don’t need a spouse. They don’t need the two-and-a-half kids.

Yet there are those that don’t see why no one wants to be with them. They’re a big part of the reason they’re not able to sustain a good relationship. As Swift sings in her song, “AntiHero.” “I’m the problem, it’s me.” They should listen to the lyrics a little closer.
