Happy Hanukkah!

I want to wish all those of the Jewish faith who celebrate a Happy Hanukkah.

I know this year especially, the holiday takes on more importance. For the past two months, things have been horrible for the people of Isreal and Gaza. I want to re-iterate what others have said. You can feel compassion for both the Jewish people of Isreal and the people of Palestine. Not everyone in Palestine is of the Muslim faith nor do they support Hamas. Not everyone in Isreal agrees with the direction the Israeli government is taking.

We seem to want to generalize too much. Worse, anit-semitism is growing in America and other parts of the world because of the incidents. Anti-Muslim rhetoric has grown in America since 9/11 but it seems to be getting harder to convince people that it’s caused by a small section of people claiming to be Muslim. The sad part is many Christians can’t get along with either religion. They just choose to side with Israel because it’s written in the Bible that it’s the Holy Land.

But politics aside this is a sacred and blessed holiday for millions Jewish followers. We should respect it and their history, even if you don’t agree with it. All most people are wanting to do in this world is to live together in harmony. We don’t all have to do the same things. But we shouldn’t force others to live the ways we think they should.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
