There’s a reason Tom the Cat never caught Jerry the Mouse. Tom needed Jerry. Taking away that it was a kid’s cartoon series, if Tom killed Jerry, then the homeowners had no other reason to keep Tom in the house. And Jerry knew that another cat wouldn’t be so humane. Even though they were seen as hostile, they were often friendly and even managed to get along for periods of time.
The Moral Majority has its roots in racism. During the 1960s when schools and universities began to integrate as segregation was ending, schools like Bob Jones University held firmly to their racist, bigoted and prejudiced ideology. Times change. And sometimes they change too fast. By the mid-1970s, the racist that was Richard M. Nixon was out of the White House which was ironic because Quakers were abolitionists. People couldn’t remain racist anymore in public as much as they did. So, they had to get a new adversary.
Enter Roe v. Wade and now abortion is the Majority’s arch-nemisis. And as many southern Democrats and Dixiecrats blamed Presdient Lyndon B. Johnson for the Civil Right Act and Voting Rights Act, they switched to Nixon who used the term “silent majority” to really mean the angry white people who saw their control changing very quickly. But more and more people realized their children didn’t share their bigoted ways.
However, abortion has no skin color. You could easily look at it as a human issue and these people on the right could make themselves appear as if they were looking out for everyone. Yet, many of them probably didn’t want black or brown-skinned women to have more children. Many right-wing and conservatives still had abortions or paid for them. Christians now wanted their daughters to have better lives than to go live with an aunt in another town for a while like 20-30 years before.
Many Boomer parents probably realized it was best for their daughters not to marry the jock quarterback who couldn’t hack going to college and end up selling insurance and beating up his current girlfriend. There was no point in forcing their daughters, who had more potential than the one-horse towns they were from, to be moms in their late teens. And as time went on, more and more people saw abortion as a necessary evil.
But racists like Mitch McConnell just had to keep President Barack Obama from nominating another Supreme Court Justice. And from there the dominoes began to fall. Donald Trump got to appoint three Justices that overturned Roe v. Wade. Unfortunately, the voters remembered when the general elections rolled around in November. The Republicans just barely took the House of Representatives but they lost the Senate.
Reports are indicating the Republican Party and his partnership with Christrians/Evangelicals is turning people away from religion altogether. And just like segregation and abortion, younger voters change their minds. Baby Boomers are dying as well as Gen Xers, believe it or not. This means come 2024, Millennials and Gen Zers will have a bigger say-so in the Presidential election. And while the Republican Party is wanting to make Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis their Golden Boy, the Boomers still want Trump, despite how The Big Lie and more and more information coming out of the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection coup attempt each day.
So, the last ditch effort is to go after drag queens and transgendered people. Despite the fact that the Catholic Church has spent the last 20 years being exposed for sexual abuse/assaults by the clergy on children, they’re still trying to pass the notion that drag queens are groomers. Just Googler “Pastor convicted” and you’ll find cases of pastors from Alabama, Georgia and Ohio convicted since January on sexual abuse/assault charges. More from Florida, South Carolina and Virginia have been arrested or charged. It’s a never-ending cycle. I have been to church in many, many years but I’m sure there aren’t any drag shows performed.
Last month, Daniel W. Merrick, of Smethport, Pa., was arrested and jailed on complaints of having 880 felony counts of possessing child pornography. Merrick isn’t a drag queen. He is a motherfucking pastor. This is beyond an epidemic in this county. It’s almost a no-brainer that sooner or later, every town, village, county or parrish in America will have a pastor, youth minister, or someone connected to a church as a deacon or leader of a church group who is arrested, charged and convicted of child pornography, sexual assault or child sexual abuse.
A drag show was performed in Tahlequah, Okla. not far from my house. I didn’t see any groomers there. It was just people performing and dancing, very well. Even when I was in my early 20s, I couldn’t move like that. It was entertainment. There were kids there too. I didn’t see them getting sexually assaulted or touched inappropriately. You know why? Because that doesn’t happen.
Now, I’m going to say this and I want someone to prove me wrong, but there is absolutely no reason for any grown man over the age of 25 who should want to be a youth pastor unless he is looking for a younger partner to groom or at-risk children to molest and sexually assault. I remember a guy who was the head of a Christian group at Georgia Southern University. He was in his late 20s. And there was just something off about him.
I had a dog one time eat an entire box of dog treats when the box fell off a shelf onto the floor. I got mad but my ex told me that was just in the dog’s nature. It saw a whole box of treats in front of him on the ground. He ate them. I think maybe a cat had knocked it off or even we didn’t put it back on the shelf in a way that it wouldn’t fall off if a bump or something caused it to fall.
You hear stories of youth pastors who date and marry the young women who they met as teens and there’s nothing romantic about it. They’re looking for someone they can find when they are young to mold them into what they want. And a lot of these young teens are living sheltered lives so if they think the youth pastor is interested in them, they then think they are special.
I have nothing against people who want to use the Bible and church to make their lives better. I have everything against people who want to use the Bible and church to make others’ lives worse. In Missouri, state rep. Phil Christofanelli, a Republican, challenged Rep. Anne Kelley, another Republican, over a bill that restricts discussing sexual orientation in schools. It’s obvious Kelley was using her religion and Christofanelli called her out on it.
In neighboring Tennessee, which is also crackling down on the LGBTQIA community as well as drag queens recently had some controversy when its Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, who already has the unfortunate name similar to a maker of maps, commented on the Instagram of a 20-year-old Franklyn McClure, who is openly gay. Now, McNally who’s presided over the prejudiced and bigoted legislation in Tennessee outlawing drag shows, is doing exactly what he claims drag queens do by commenting on a young man nearly a fourth of his age. This motherfucker has 30 years on Leonardo DiCaprio who also prefers 20-year-olds. I mean, it’s obvious McNally is bisexual or bicurious. It just further perpetuates their hypocrisy.
And while McClure has said McNally shouldn’t apologize, he should. People like McClure are constantly being targeted because of legislators in Tennessee and other states who want to go after the LGBTQIA community. But behind closed doors, they’re watching gay and trans porn or even trying to have hook-ups with gay or trans people. McNally needs to come to terms with his own sexuality. I understand as a lieutenant governor he has certain duties. But it just goes to show how disgusting the Republican Party is getting.
At the recent CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) Daily Wire host Michael Knowles called for the eradication of “transgenderism.” This is hatred and prejucide is the only way the Republican Party is now able to operate. It’s leeching on to Christian organizations who are now saying the quiet part aloud. Yet the question remains how much longer are people willing to stay associated with this.
Like I said, you can always disagree about abortion and say you’re thinking of the unborn. But now, they’re saying you should save a child from being born, but if the child is gay or behaves like a girl but is born a boy or vice versa, we should “eradicate” them. During the whole fertilization of the sperm and the egg, there are several things that can go wrong and sadly do. For all those who say, “God makes us perfect,” explain people who are near-sighted or far-sighted, born with Down’s Syndrome, cleft lips, missing an limb, etc. There is no perfect human being if we all have faults. Isn’t this why Christians say we need God and Jesus? Christians get muddled in their own logic and they know it.
After the recent CPAC, which was reportedly a bust, with very few people attending compared to in the past, even when Trump spoke, hopefully, people are getting the message. The Republican Party wants control just like extreme religious figures. That’s their agenda. And they’re going after the LGBTQIA community and drag queens because they’re still easier targets older people not wanting to change.
So, which side are you on? No one says you have to agree with anyone’s choice transition. No one says you have to attend every gay wedding in America. All people want is equality, just like during the Civil Rights Movement. People used Christianity to justify their own prejudice during that time. They know as long as they dangle a little carrot in front of Christians and their hatred, they can do whatever they want.
What do you think? Please comment.
