Well, Daylight Savings Time begins again from now until Nov. 1.
And of course, the $64,000 question is why do we keep doing this? Can’t we keep time permanent? We created it. It’s not like it’s moving mountains.
The first week or so during this period is the worst time for people. Our bodies are off their system. Statistically, there are more accidents because people have lack of sleep.
Yes, it’s nice to have more hours of sunlight in the evening but come summer time, I don’t really like it still being light out at 9 p.m. Unfortunately, there’s nothing to do. Congress stalled on the Sunshine Protection Act in 2022 and I don’t think we’ll ever see anything soon unless a lot of people tweet about it and the President sees it.
I’m sure if it takes more attention away from the Not-A-War in Iran and the Epstein Files, it might get some attention just for a little bit.
The myth has been that it’s the farmers who wanted it. Yeah, like farmers/ranchers work banking hours. Hell, no one works banking hours anymore really. January or July, farmers are up and out by 6 a.m. mostly.
But then they say it’s because school kids have to wait at the bus stops in the dark as the Earth rotation’s points us the farthest away from the sun during the winter months. Well, problem solved there is to start school later.
I mean, people have said that children of varying ages have different times of the day where they are the most active. Seriously, no one is really interested in trigonometry and the periodic table at 8:10 a.m. But there’s the rub. Public education has really never been about what’s best for the students but what’s best for the teachers and the students’ parents who drop their kids off on the way to work.
This is all something that goes back to The Great War, aka World War I and the German. So, yes, we’re basing our system of time on a country we were at war with once did. Being retired because of my disability, I don’t really care. But I do know it sucked when I was working. You want that extra hour every weekend they take from you. And then you spend the next few weeks having to adjust. At least they don’t screw over the kids and do it during Spring Break.
But seriously, what do you think? Should we keep doing this or just keep the time the same year round?
