I’ll begin this post with a history lesson. Edward Joseph O’Hare was known as “Easy Eddie.” He was also a lawyer who worked for mobster Al Capone through his rise in the 1920s. However, by the early 1930s, O’Hare had a change of heart. His only son, Edward Henry “Butch” O’Hare was growing up and about to enter the real world.
Some say the elder O’Hare reached a deal with the government to work with them to convict Capone if his son could get into the Naval Academy. In 1932, the younger O’Hare would graduate from Western Military Academy and the next year was accepted at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Unfortunately, the elder O’Hare realized there was a price to pay and on Nov. 8, 1939, he was gunned down in his car at an intersection in Chicago. He died almost instantly. The younger O’Hare went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Naval Air division obtaining the rank of lieutenant commander before his plane was shot down on Nov. 26, 1943 near the Gilbert Islands in the Pacific Oceans.
O’Hare was only 29 and despite a search, he was legally declared dead a year later. But on Feb. 20, 1942, he became the stuff of heroic legends when he single-handedly took on a formation of nine Japanese bombers that had been sent to attack the U.S.S. Lexington in the waters north of Papua New Guinea. O’Hare was able to take down five of the bombers as the ammunition ran out.
He received the Medal of Honor for this. Even though the elder O’Hare had never lived to see this, he showed that you can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. He had to pay for his sins but he did turn his life around. What would’ve happened if he went down with Capone? Would his son even been allowed to the Academy? And what would’ve happened to the people on the Lexington?
It seems as we finished the first year of this crazy time in our history, how far down can we go? ICE is no different than those who chased runaway enslaved people with vicious dogs or still use unethical and totally immoral tactics behind a badge. Hilton hotels have said they’re refusing service ICE members. I’m not sure if this applies to the Third Amendment which prohibits the quartering of soldiers in people’s homes without the owner’s consent, but it’s close.
And if bakeries can refuse to make cakes for same-sex couples, then Hilton can refuse service to people who are glorified terrorists.
I’ve been sick for a few days and haven’t been fully following the incidents in Minneapolis, but it seems another attempt by this administration to target cities that are sundown towns. But from what I’ve seen of the video, the ICE officers weren’t in any real danger and just quick to get their rocks off. And now Renee Nicole Good, 37, is dead and Jonathan Ross has been identified as a possible ICE officer.
This came five years and one day after the Jan. 6 insurrection coup attempt. I’m pretty sure it’s no coincidence they were in Minneapolis nor that the administration ordered their Venezuelan military operation a few days ahead of the anniversary. For years, we’ve heard that Ashli Babbit was a patriot and hero for basically doing what most homeowners say is their right – to shoot someone who breaks through their window because it’s criminal trespassing.
Most ICE agents probably don’t have much going for them. News has been released that George Zimmerman can’t find a job and has to constantly change residences from harassments. And I say, it couldn’t have happened to a better person. Sometimes, it’s just best to mind your own business.
And Kyle Rittenhouse has also had some bad luck getting a job. But he got married. And just like Lauren Boebert and her family, we’re just waiting for all the police calls to become public record.
So, I’m sure some ICE agents are going to turn tail and sing like Ethel Merman when the time comes. We can’t get good healthcare in this country and prices are still rising, but we just spent $800 billion so government officials can fire on regular people. And the FBI who is working in conjunction with the Administration is the agency heading up the investigation.
I know some people who act like things won’t change under J.D. Vance but I doubt many people will support him the way they did Trump. This isn’t North Korea. When a chubby sweaty younger version steps in, people don’t just embrace him as much. A lot of the power the current President has won’t be extended.
I’ve fed up with it all myself. But we can always change it for the better like the elder O’Hare did.
