For all of those people out there who celebrate, I want to wish you peace and love on the Day of the Dead. This past year, I lost my mother who was 80 at the time she passed. It’s never easy losing a parent but I consider myself grateful that I didn’t have to endure this lost an an earlier age.
A woman I went to school with lost her mother during her senior year in high school. Other people I grew up with lost their mothers and fathers when they were growing up or in their 20s. My stepfather, Randy, passed away when I was only 26. And even though he wasn’t my biological father, it was nice having another parent around because sometimes you need someone else to turn to.
My stepmother just turned 80 herself this past summer and my father is 74, making him thea oldest man on his side of the family. It’s a record I hope to break. But we never do know when our loved ones will pass away. That’s what makes life so precious and amazing. You never know what will happen from day to day so, you just make the best of every day you have.
