Over the last few years, I’ve learned of how the waters in the Coosa River Basin in northwest Georgia where I grew up have been polluted with PFAS chemicals.

It appears many other waterways in the area have tested positive for these pollutants. There’s a lot of carpet and rug factories and textiles in that section of the country. And sadly, many of the people I have grown up with have died from illnesses.

One of those was my late girlfriend, Kerry Kerr, who was the Board Secretary of Wheels of Happiness before her death during the winter of 2022. The organization celebrates 10 years of operations this year with a fundraising gala on Oct. 18 in Atlanta.
