Fiesta De Mayo In Tahlequah

The Tahlequah community celebrated Fiesta de Mayo on Saturday, May 3 in the downtown area.

The northeastern Oklahoma community is home to many diverse cultures as well as being the capital of the Cherokee Nation and the United Keetowah Band of Cherokees. Nearby is Clear Creek Abbey, a French Catholic monastery and covenant that reportedly has people from all over the world.

Festivities include live entertainment, a car show and food trucks selling food and other vendors. It’s great to see the Latino community recognized in the diverse community.

Today is Cinco de Mayo which commemorates the Mexico army’s victory of the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Hope everyone has a great day for those that celebrate.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
