On a recent trip back east to the town in which I grew up, I talked with a few long-time friends who have always had different political viewpoints. But if there’s one thing we seem in agreement on is the abundance of apathy we have toward people who voted for Donald Trump and seem to be the ones getting screwed over.
I seemed to avoid much of the news over the past few weeks because it’s all smoke and mirrors by the Trump Administration to thump their chest and still believe it’s the post-WWII era where they had the abilities the country thought they had. But the mere fact is simple – Money talks, bullshit walks.
Trump and his family do not give a fuck that you’ve spent countless money on his merchandise over the years. You’re not a millionaire to them so their attitude is to fuck off. In the 1996 political satire Bulworth, Warren Beatty’s titular character is a U.S. Senator from California who boldly tells an African-American civic assembly he hasn’t done much for them other than a photo op because they haven’t donated to his campaign. If they did, a mere few dollars isn’t going to cut it.
Trump is a President involved in making deals to enrich himself and his interests not helping people, that is unless they help him more in return. The man is 78-fucking-years-old. Do you think he’s going to magically wake up one day and look at the people supporting him and say to himself, “Today I’m gonna change for the better?”
I mean, the guy signed a young boy’s MAGA hat and then tossed it into the crowd behind him. There’s video of the boy screaming as this happens. Do you think the MAGAts who caught it gave it back to him than you haven’t been to a baseball game when people fight over a home run ball like the zombies in a Romero Dead movie. He doesn’t give a fuck about the people especially since he doesn’t need their vote anymore. That’s why he treated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky like shit. Both he and Vice-President J.D. Vance have assembled the least qualified Presidential cabinet ever. They know nothing of diplomacy because they’ve never understood politics.
I was discussing this with one of my friends who would be considered more conservative even though he has liberal views. However, he has no love for Trump and he never did. Both of us have a background in journalism and communications. The people who voted for Trump are the types who should never vote. They’re the types who think they can rush into any governmental meeting screaming and hollering because that’s the way it works in the movies and on TV.
But that’s not the case. Let’s face it, by the time Vance got more knowledgeable of politics, probably in his teens, the Fox News machine was in high gear. It’s all about screaming and accusing people of things they’re not doing. Politics is boring. It’s not meant to be a professional wrestling match with theatrics, even if Linda McMahon is now the Secretary of the Department of Education. (And we thought Betty DeVos was a bad choice.)
But there’s a reason Trump wants to do away with the Education Department, he doesn’t seem like he knows how to read. When presented with a letter from King Charles, he looked at it the way you get a present from your grandparents that you’re not to happy about. It’s a standard custom that when someone gives you a letter, you read it. If you get a present with a card attached, you read the card.
Either he can’t read or he’s got huge issues with his eyes that inhibits his abilities to read somewhat. Does he have cataracts? Does he really need reading glasses and thinks it will make him look like a nerd? Is he that fucking dumb?
I mean, of course he is. But even if he couldn’t read, which Pete Davidson claims he couldn’t following his appearance on Saturday Night Live, his people would use this was a way of his strength, resilience and perseverance. I mean, watching him sign those executive orders, they could’ve told him anything about them, he had no idea what they were.
But it’s funny how people now are getting a hot dose of voters’ remorse as they see themselves losing jobs and how prices are going up. They’ve never heard the parable about the person who brought the near-death rattlesnake in from the freezing cold. When it warmed up, it bit the person. As the person lied dying, they say, “I kept you from freezing to death.” The rattlesnake replied, “But you know what I was when you picked me up.”
In other words, fuck around and find out. Yet, it seems that the rest of us are having to suffer. For those that never studied history, Josef Stalin, Fidel Castro and Adolf Hitler also punished their most loyal just to show that they didn’t have any favorites and to send a message to others.
Voters knew what type of leader Trump was and what he was going to do. They just didn’t think the rattlesnake would bite them. Just because you’re kind and nice to people, it doesn’t mean they’ll be nice and kind to you. Anyone who’s ever worked in customer services and/or the food service industry can attest to that.
And it seems like poetic justice or karma that they’ve spent all these years even dating back to the George W. Bush era treating others like garbage. They are the “Fuck Your Feelings” crowd but now they are the ones who are whining as the rest of us say, “Fuck Your Feelings.”
We’re now living in the Fuck Around and Find Out Generation.
