Birthday Party Held For Civic Leader

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Y2K may not seem like something but it was also for the birthday celebration of Tahlequah area civic leader David Cornsilk, who turns 66 on Feb. 10. The party We Survived Y2K 25 Years Anniversary was held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Dewain’s Place, a popular bar and hangout spot.

Cornsilk is professional genealogist and in 2023 he ran unsuccessfully for Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. However the incumbent Chuck Hoskins Jr. was re-elected.

The event had multiple drag show queens performing as well as deli foods for those in attendance to enjoy. People also received goody bags upon entrance. Ivana B. Real was the emcee with Porcelynn Turrelle, Sash Turrelle, Josie Lee Turrelle and Felimena Pussywillow performing.

I'm an award winning journalist and photographer who covered dozens of homicides and even interviewed President Jimmy Carter on multiple occasions. A back injury in 2011 and other family medical emergencies sidelined my journalism career. But now, I'm doing my own thing, focusing on movies (one of my favorite topics), current events and politics (another favorite topic) and just anything I feel needs to be posted. Thank you for reading.
