If you haven’t checked the numbers of the Mega Millions jackpot for Tuesday, Dec. 17, you might have notice something odd.
It’s common for the numbers to be close together. Supposedly, it’s all drawn at random at 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in Atlanta. I’ve actually been to the WSB studios numerous times and seen the backdrop and set. And I’ve heard it’s even open to anyone who wants to watch just to make sure.
However, some people may be scratching their heads after the drawing on Tuesday. The first number is 56 than the other four numbers are 66, 67, 68 and 69. While you have to consider the probability it would be like this, it seems odd especially with the jackpot so high at $760 million on Dec. 17.
There have been reports of people winning only to be told it’s incorrect. Earlier this year, John Cheeks of Washington, D.C. claims to have been denied his winnings on a Powerball ticket as he was told it was an incorrect drawing. During the 2010s, Katrina Bookman thought she won a $43 million win at a slot machine at the Resorts World Casino in New York. The workers claimed the machine malfunctioned. She sued. However, the Covid-19 pandemic happened and a Queens County judge ruled in favor of the casino.
The house always wins as the saying goes. It’s possible the numbers were selected because the company didn’t have access to the money and just threw together some numbers they knew no one would win big on. Oklahoma City news stations are reported a local resident won $1 million. They got all the five numbers but not the magic number.
And the Mega Millions jackpot is up to an estimated $825 million. So, good luck to anyone who plays.
