
Halloween may be over by the music department at Northeastern State University. Pianist Farren Mayfield and several of the faculty/staff and students entertained people with ghoulish tunes at the Center for Performing Arts at the Tahlequah campus. Mayfield performed works from Ludwig van Beethoven, Claude Debussy and Franz Schubert as well as contemporary composers such as Danny Elfman, Stephen Sondheim and John Williams.
For Fantasia for Euphonium by Gordon Jacobs, Joseph Bello joined Mayfield on the stage. Allison Moore, a soprano, lent her lovely voice as she performed “The Seal Man” by Rebecca Clark. Dr. Justin Kroll, a tenor sang “Witches Aria” from Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck. Dr. Jeffery Wall, a baritone, performed “The Barber and his Wife” from Sweeney Todd.
There was also a performance of “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Peter Gynt by Edvard Grief was performed all on flutes by Jazmyn Ortiz and Catalina Ortega, both on C flutes, with Emily Buford on alto and Lidia Galliton on bass. Jordan VanHemert, on alto saxophone, performed from Tableaux de Provence. Dr. Alexander Doyle, on clarinet, performed “Song Without Words” by Libby Larsen.
The event was closed with the playing of “Double Trouble” from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and “This is Halloween” from Nightmare Before Christmas. Mayfield was accompanied with singers Anna Davey, Destiny Hiddleston, Matt Long, Chloe Mayfield, Rowan McFarland, Guy McKissick, Tucker Phipps, Lacey Reyes-Sosi, Myklind Reyes-Sosi, Aletha Rodgers, Maria Souliotis, Andy Willis and Lissie Willis.
There also was a costume contest and small reception.
