Can Democrats Keep It Up And Not Get Too Cocky?

Following the completion of the Democratic National Convention, it seems that the Democrats are flying high a good two months after it seemed things were on the rocks. The debate between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump didn’t go well. Questions arose as to whether Biden was too old to be running. Then, there was the assassination attempt on Trump’s life at a rally in Pennsylvania.

The fact that this isn’t getting as much news now still than it should leaves more people to ponder if it wasn’t all staged. Trump’s willingness to capitalize off his own assassination attempt leaves more and more to wonder. And without Googling it, can you think of the name of the shooter? Don’t worry, I couldn’t either and it was Thomas Matthew Crooks. Yet, why isn’t this bigger news? It’s been over a month, I know but we’d still be hearing about it if the shooter was a non-white or non-Republican.

Maybe it’s because some Republicans think Trump is too soft is something that the Grand Old Party isn’t wanting people to realize as they continue to argue that the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection coup attempt was just a peaceful demonstration that got out of hand. Yes, there are people who have been wanting for decades to overthrow the government even if a Republican is in the White House. All these militia groups came into the spotlight in the 1980s when Ronald Reagan was in the White House. Democrats controlled the House of Representatives but they’re seemed to be a phantom menace that was growing out of the Silent Majority Richard M. Nixon talked about.

People like E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy both seemed to be isolated people. Now, they are basically the forefathers of a movement in America that is only for White Anglo-Saxon Christian Men who are in charge. Margaret Atwood was obviously telling us we better be careful 40 years ago. Yet we didn’t listen then.

And this is where the Democrats really need to keep vigilant. Yes, there is a lot of attention for Vice-President Kamala Harris and it seems the Democrats are riding high. But that could easily come crashing down pretty soon. The Democrats are lucky they have someone like Tom Walz to select. He’s a governor but he’s also a white man. Even Barack Obama knew that Biden was the only way he could convince some skeptical people the same way John F. Kennedy used a Southern Democrat like Lyndon B. Johnson as his running mate.

JFK’s nephew Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspended his campaign a few days ago and threw his support behind Trump. While it was obvious Kennedy didn’t have much of a prayer running as a third party independent, he might have been the person who would divide the votes between Trump and what was then Biden. Now, that Biden is out, it’s seems pointless for Kennedy to stay in as he knows some people who would’ve supported him will support Trump. But also, they are going to support Trump.

Kennedy’s crazy behavior in the recent weeks show that he was losing a lot of support. And if you click on any comment thread where you see a story about him, the people defending him look like what you expect. They have Oakley sunglasses and/or wearing Carhart clothing. I hate to generalize but they do seem to fit a certain type of mold.

While eight years ago, Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high,” that might have been noble words. But now, it’s obviously the Right is going to play hardball every chance they can get. They already went after Tim Walz’s teenage son crying emotionally at the DNC. So much for family values. It might surprise the Trump family to see any offspring be happy for a parental unit without a promise of a sizable percentage of the estate in the last will and testament.

Yes, they’re trying to go after Walz, who is a military vet, former school teacher and football coach. He’s about as Midwestern as they come. And this was the people the Republicans were going for when they chose J.D. Vance who claims he’s from working class Ohio but his family history and education proves otherwise. Vance has been criticized for asking for Swiss cheese on a Philly cheesesteak in Pennsylvania as well as the awkwardness at a Georgia donut shop where the workers seemed about as interesting in him as if he was the health inspector. I mean, the video is so awkward. He walks in the place in a suit and then stands around like the employees should know who he is. Has he ever ordered donuts before?

There’s been a lot of speculation that Vance was chosen when Trump thought he would going up against Biden. However, now, that hasn’t worked. This is why Trump is upset. He knows the Democrats were not too happy with Biden. But Harris has added some much needed spark to the campaign where it’s not just a choice between Statler or Waldorf. And it’s possible the Republican Party made the same mistake they did back in 2008 when they chose Sarah Palin without properly vetting her.

What’s still strange is that Vance has only been a U.S. Senator since January of 2023. What makes anyone think that he could be the second in campaign behind Trump? I’ve heard some of my friends suggest Vance is being primed by Trump to take over for Project 2025 or Agenda 47. Also Vance, like Niki Haley and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp are now “kissing the ring” for Trump.

But part of the reason people continue to support Trump isn’t because they like him. No, he just hates who they hate too. And they’re wanting to see the same people suffer. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Trump has encouraged people who NEVER should vote to vote. They’re unfamiliar with the process. They have a crazy prejudiced agenda. They will support Trump because they like his rhetoric. It’s the old “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” agenda.

This means the next two months, the Democrats have to remain as vigilant as ever. It’s going to get ugly. Even Michelle Obama seemed like a different person when she spoke at the DNC. And President Obama went as far as making a dick joke at the DNC, because he knows it will get under Trump’s skin so bad. The Obamas live rent free in Trump’s mind and that of Fox News.

But it’s very likely Trump might be in prison this time next month. This fund-raiser he is planning on Sept. 5 to support Jan. 6 people who have been charged and sentenced could be a bait and switch. It’s likely Trump is going to be taking the money himself and leaving the country. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised for Trump hopping on his jet and going to a non-extradition country with all the money in off-shore and foreign accounts.

Trump is running to stay out of prison. He has no agenda. People are leaving his rallies as people have stopped attending them. The October surprise this election year may be Trump’s exit from this country. Who knows? If Democrats take back the House and hold on to the Senate, they will definitely go after Trump in full force. There’ll be no reason to keep continuing his trial cases.

But Democrats need to stay vigilant because the Republicans are going to do whatever they can. And I have an idea that I’m sure the Republicans have considered that I will post about later.

This election isn’t going to be over when it’s over.
