There’s an old proverb that goes, “Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I don’t want to get into a political post on July 4, but it is a day where politics should be at the forefront.
The Supreme Court has spoken in regards that former President Donald J. Trump has basically absolute power as long as everything is an “official act.” That’s like how they say the Korean War was actually just the Korean Conflict. Shell shock is the same as post-traumatic stress. We can switch around words in the legal sense to get around a lot of things.
But at the end of the day, it can be very dangerous when one person’s actions are seen as “official” when if any other committed it, it would be criminal. A person shouldn’t want immunity from possible criminal acts unless they are committing criminal acts. The job of the Presidency is a hard one but it should be taken with the best intentions and empathy involved.
Kings, dictators and emperors always operate under one rule – “I’m always right; you’re always wrong.” I’m glad Project 2025 is getting some attention. It’s quite possible people may see the Court’s ruling in the Jan. 6 insurrection coup attempt case could work against them if they don’t choose the right person.
People in this country, or in general, are perfectly happy if someone else is getting the shaft on everything. Just as long as it’s not them. We incarcerate more people in this country than others. It’s laughable we celebrate freedom but freedom with guidelines. If people can openly carry firearms, then why do we need law enforcement. It’s because certain people don’t want others to have a slice of the pie.
We even have law enforcement working in communities they can’t afford to live in. Talk about irony. Hotels and restaurants pay people a weak salary of which they will never be able to pay to be a guest.
We need to remember what Independence Day really means. Because if we continue on the path some people want, it means we’re just eventually traded one oppressive regime for another.
