I’ll be blunt. I’m getting sick and tired of the “Both political parties are bad!” people. Maybe 35-40 years ago that might have been a good way to justify your reasoning for not voting. I mean, in 1984, you had that sumbitch Reagan against Walter Mondale. Then you had Daddy Bush versus Michael Dukakis in 1988. So, it wasn’t like we were picking the cream of the crop.
But by the 1990s, you had to start picking a side even if you didn’t want to. That’s why Ross Perot was so popular. But ever since 2000, it’s been a way for people to act like the candidate is going to be their boyfriend/girlfriend material. Jesus Christ! People say they chose Lil Bush because he seemed the type of person they’d want to have a beer with. He was a recovering alcoholic. These are probably the same fucking people who have to comment on every item on the fucking menu at a restaurant. No one really gives a shit if you don’t like Beef Stroganoff, especially not the waiter/server who is gritting her teeth to give you a Cheshire cat grin because they’ve just realized they’re not getting much of a tip no matter what.
These are the people we ask to choose elected leaders. And for the most part, a lot of them fuck it up. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Maybe people did vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton because they didn’t really like Clinton and they thought Trump didn’t have a chance of winning. But it’s just like when you underestimate how many people will go see a weekend movie matinee and don’t buy your tickets in time only to see they’re sold out.
A lot of people in 2016 probably voted for Trump out of protest and that’s how he became President. That’s why a lot didn’t vote for him in 2020. They made that mistake once. They’re not going to make it again. However, ever since Thursday evening after the first Presidential Debate, just about every news pundit in America is saying President Joe Biden should bow out because of one bad performance at the debate. And this is why the Democrats always seem to be the weaker party. They base everything on one little event. On the other hand, Republicans have gotten obsessed with achieving one major goal they don’t consider the long-term consequences of it.
Yes, Biden did have some hard time answering questions. But he’s also been struggling with a stutter for most of his life. His son, Hunter, was recently convicted on firearm charges that wouldn’t have happened if the Republican Party wanted to go after him. Also, it’s just a fucking televised debate. People are smarter now than they were back in 1960 when John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon did it. In a digital era when elected officials are constantly on social media, you can’t base an entire presidency on 90 minutes especially since the network CNN has been fumbling for years trying to accommodate right-wing viewers.
Has anyone remembered what things were like for the last three and a half years? As a matter of fact, the insurrection coup attempt on Jan. 6, 2021 would’ve been the deciding factor for many other Presidents. But we’re not approaching the 2024 election in any conventional, logical or rational way that we have in recent years. And sadly, the Democrats can’t see that. The arguments I keep hearing are there are a lot of other worthy candidates than Biden. Yes, there are.
But don’t expect anti-Trump voters the vote for them. The biggest thing Biden has going for him is that he’s a white man and devout Catholic. He will get enough of the people who may want not want to vote for Kamala Harris or Beta O’Rourke. Also, it’s not good for a major political party not to endorse the incumbent President. The last time this happened it was with Franklin Pierce in 1856. The Democrat Party at the time was unhappy with his administration and supported James Buchanan.
And then a Civil War started. The Democrat Party getting rid of Biden after one bad performance at a debate where the opponent spread lie after lie including some racist overtones, is foolish. That’s like junking your car because its tire ran over a nail and leaking air which can be easily fixed. Of course, I also think this is a bunch of “In-the-Know” political writers throwing out their two cents. They’ve had this story partially pre-written for years and they’ve been waiting to post it. This is their time to shine for the time being.
A good friend of mine said that some voters don’t support Trump but they also don’t support Biden. Yet if the Democrats put up another candidate, then they would vote for that candidate. I’m just wondering if it’s Bernie Sanders who is a year older than Biden and part of the reason we have Trump to begin with thanks to all those BernieBros. That’s their right if they don’t want to vote for Biden nor Trump. However, will their votes really matter?
I’m just going to say it flat out. There are Democrat voters or even independents who don’t want to vote for Harris. They’ll roll their dice and take their chances with Biden. We still have to remember, there are many voters still alive who were born in a world where segregation and Jim Crow laws were a thing. A lot of liberal voters just like to root for the oppressed minorities but they don’t want to associate with them too much.
It’s the same thing with people who say they support the LGBTQIA community but only prefer it if the people are on their wavelength. The lesbians have to look like Portia de Rossi and not like Ellen DeGeneres. They support transgender women who do porn but don’t want to be with transgender women in person who may still be transition on HRT. The brutal irony is Biden fits the Silver Fox archetype we’ve created for all political leaders. And some might see that as a benefit regardless of his age or abilities to speak like Morgan Freeman.
But after Monday’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court 6-3 in regards to if Trump is immune from allegations he interfered with the 2020 election process in Washington D.C., it might backfire against Trump in ways a bad debate wouldn’t. The Court ruled that Presidents are immune and have absolute power from official actions. Yet, that doesn’t apply to unofficial actions. However this is so vague, it could be open to interpretation.
It basically gives the Presidency the abilities to do whatever they want as long as it’s official business. And since the Presidency is a 24/7 job, everything can be “official business.” Does that mean it can also apply to Biden? To me, it sounds like the Court was too chickenshit to pick a side and just reverted it back to the lower courts putting the onus on U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkhan to make a ruling with special prosecutor Jack Smith making a harder argument.
Unfortunately, this also means Trump can appoint a new attorney general if elected and dismiss the federal charges and pardon himself. Yet that also gives Biden and his administration the ability to interfere with the election. My guess is Congress will probably take this up as soon as they can. However, Trump’s sentencing is coming up in less than two weeks shortly before the Republican National Convention.
It’s very likely he could be incarcerated. A major political party has a convicted person as their candidate. That might turn some moderates and conservatives off who are hoping the GOP has an ace up its sleeve. Remember people actually thought Trump was going to have Biden arrested before the inauguration? Some voters are not that smart. And the GOP is banking on that.
And while polls show Trump is ahead of Biden, that’s likely to change in the coming months, especially if Trump does have to go to prison. I don’t think in good conscience a lot of conservatives would really vote for someone in prison. What’s more foolish than people saying Biden should step down after a bad debate is people supporting a man who has proven time and time again he’s only running to stay out of trouble.
Also, Trump is doing something not really seen since Nixon and that is wanting to go after his enemies. However, Nixon was more legal about it mainly by making cannabis a Schedule I drug to target those in the black community and of the counterculture movement. I have a feeling that Trump would probably target anyone he doesn’t like. And that’s how dictatorships start. I could go to prison for writing this post. Or you could go to prison just for reading it. Or just by being a subscriber.
Remember one of the first actions Trump did as President back in 2017 was wanting a list of registered voters. I can only imagine what his administration was wanting to do with that information. And a lot of people continue to support him because they don’t think they’ll be affected. Or they’re just as fucking ignorant as he is. I’ve lived in the south. I’ve lived in conservative communities. I’ve lived in rural communities. Let me just say this – people want to have it both ways.
By that I mean they want to be put up on a pedestal because they have the more simple life. A lot of times it’s a life they’ve chosen that they thrust upon their children who are probably going to be more at a disadvantage over the changing years. They think going to church or hunting for sport as long as they eat the meat somehow makes them better than the rest of the people out there. But they always want to be treated with humility that their way of life should excuse them from advancing in an ever-changing world.
And that’s the way Trump acts. He can’t help his upbringing it was thrust upon him. Yet, he’s more knowledgeable of things than others he always claims. If anyone else feels they should have more expertise on a matter, then we should shun them. That’s the way they did and still continue to do with Dr. Anthony Fauci. It’s the way farmers think they should get pats on the back for getting up at 4:30 a.m. But a lot of people get up that early to work. Or the way people who work blue-collar jobs think they’re more important while at the same time their ignorance of other things should be bliss. It’s that foolish mindset that allows them to think that Trump, who has never worked on a farm nor done a blue-collar back-breaking job, is the person for them.
I have helped my uncle herd cattle. I’ve had chickens. I’ve worked back-breaking jobs. It’s mainly the reason I’m in the situation I am physically right now. And I can guarantee you while I continue to fight for my disability benefits, Trump and the Republican Party do not want you to have yours. Mainly it’s because they’ve believed the lies by Reagan and the GOP of “Welfare Queens” that just aren’t true. We’re actually seeing the effects of the tax cuts Trump gave his buddies years ago as well as how Reagan felt government should work for businesses and corporations more than its own people.
Now, we’re dealing with a huge wealth inequality and corporate profits at the highest while they want to close stores and lay off people because people can’t afford to shop at big stores. And the Republicans’ idea to cut people off Medicaid and food stamps has resulted in stores, like Walgreens, actually losing money. Corporations are buying residential houses and it’s impossible for many Millennials and Gen Zers to afford rent.
However, the Boomers who got us into this mess for the last 40-50 years still think those under 40 will vote for Trump. I don’t think so. Polls may be showing Trump is leading but who the hell under 50 answers a phone call when they don’t recognize the number? I’ve never been questioned of any poll. Nor have I ever met anyone who was questioned in one. And with most surveys and polls, you got to look at exactly who is conducting it and who is answering.
Even though the Republicans have Project 2025 as a way to maintain power, they may not want to be in power because a housing crisis is probably lurking in the shadows like a phantom menace. Do the Republicans really want to be in office when this goes down? They were when it happened in 2007-2008 and look what happened.
The irony of everything is that their lust for power and greed could’ve worked out in the long run if they had played their cards right. Republicans should’ve been supporting Clinton to win in 2016 as they would’ve been able to make her administration a living Hell. Trump could’ve made a lot of money off losing in 2016. I also think Stormy Daniels wouldn’t have pursued the hush money case. No impeachments and no insurrection attempts would’ve have happened.
Actions have consequences. Just because Trump, the GOP and conservatives on the Supreme Court don’t think the rules apply to them, they’re not getting any younger. They can talk all they want to about Biden’s age but he still manages to get the job done. I heard one commenter online to refer to the President as the conductor of a symphony. Even those who were loyal to Trump said he would get up during important meetings and go to other rooms to watch TV. At least Biden is willing to take the job more serious.
We’ve could’ve all avoid this eight years ago but people were more concerned about Clinton’s emails. I don’t want to tell people this time next year, more people were worried about a pointless debate. If you need a debate at this point to choose Biden or Trump, you probably already made your decision. You’re just looking for a way to rationalize it when if the shit hits the fan but you could’ve help avoid it.
What do you think? Please comment.
