I’ve been kinda silent on the protests happening on college campus mainly because the whole Israeli-Palestine deal has been basically “Same Shit Different Day” for months. You can be both pro-Israel and pro-Palestine at the same time as long as you’re anti-Hamas and anti-Benjamin Netanyahu on the matter. I’m almost certain some Israeli are fed up with this crap from Netanyahu already.
The problem is the U.S. government and several businesses and institutions are scared shitless to say anything negative against Israel, which is funny because being “anti-woke” is the name of the game. And is the same “anti-woke” the way people on both sides tiptoe around Israel? It’s like how the right is saying that because they don’t like Ellen DeGeneres or Lance Bass as entertainers doesn’t make them homophobic. Hating how Israel’s government has been operating for the past 30 years isn’t anti-Semitic. It’s important to be vocal about something you don’t exactly agree with as long as you don’t push it to the extreme.
Yes, you can’t like President Joe Biden and the Democrat Party. Yet, it’s when you cross a line, then you should be called out on it. Supporting Palestine doesn’t mean you support terrorism. I mean, one person’s view of terrorism is another’s view of colonialism. I’ve gotten into so many arguments with people about how the European “settlers” weren’t the same as Latino immigrants today. Would it be a big surprise to some of these people to believe that the Founding Fathers never intended for Manifest Destiny nor the 13 colonies to go toward 50 states?
Coming as it is almost 54 years after the Kent State University massacre in which four unarmed students were shot and killed by the Ohio National Guard and nine more were injured protesting the Vietnam War, it seems the more things change the more they stay the same. Despite rumors, the National Guard hasn’t been called to deal with the protests on college campus. But when you consider we’ve turned police departments into paramilitary organizations, there’s hardly any difference anymore.
And on the campus of the University of Mississippi, the protest from pro-Palestine people was met with racial taunts from counter protestors. Counter protesting I don’t mind. Racial taunts, I don’t like. And considering one of the racial protestors has been identified as J.P. Staples, it just makes sense. I’ve never met anyone who called themselves “J.P.” who wasn’t a douchebag. And they had Trump flags there. Do they really think Trump has a better plan for the Middle-East? He supports Netanyahu 100 percent. For a university that still calls itself Ole Miss, they are really just a sports program where students go to become heavily indebted to loan agencies.
It doesn’t surprise me some Bubba from Georgia whose name is Rep. Mike Collins would be praising the students. The only time a Georgia person would praise anything out of Mississippi is when they are being very, very racist. And let’s be fucking honest here. A good majority of these pro-Isreal assholes who are thumping their Bibles are so anti-Semitic themselves the only thing they hate more is the brown-skinned people in the Middle-East. I don’t for one second believe anyone from Jackson, Miss. to Jackson, Ga. where Collins is from has many Jewish friends.
I don’t know. I might be wrong and that might be a generalization itself. But we seem to live in a society that keeps insisting there’s no such thing as racism, except against white people. Yet, when I was growing up, all I heard was how bad the Jewish people were, how crooked the Catholic people were, and how dangerous the Islamic people. The one thing the election of Barack Obama in 2008 proved was that people were really racist, even though they claimed they weren’t. Just because they didn’t shave their heads or wear white hoods, it didn’t mean they weren’t.
And of course, Trump did another dog whistle comment by saying he’s going to fight the “anti-white feeling” in America. Of course, he means the “anti-white (male) feeling” in America. That’s why so many men don’t understand why women would rather encounter a bear in the woods than a man. I’m a man myself and I would rather encounter a bear. Too many men have too many pre-conceived ideas of why they should be in power. And it’s no surprise the counter protestors of students at Ole Miss are dudebros.
I was watching a segment on CBS Sunday Morning today where a guy who said he went to go get his morning coffee and pray. He look up and saw a young black kid walking toward him and his first instinct was to fight. However, the young kid assumed the man was homeless because of his clothing and appearance as the man had been awoken early by a false fire alarm. The two talked and realized the kid was offering the man a dollar to help. Yes. A little bit of talking might smooth things over. It’s a nice story. But why should a white man assume any young black male is going to harm them?
As I’ve said before the myth of suburbia is that it’s more friendly. That’s bullshit! How many times do you talk or hang out with your neighbors? My next-door neighbors, who now cut my grass since I’m not able and invite me to cook-outs, and I didn’t talk for almost a year until someone shot one of their dogs. I guess I should’ve said “Hello.” But shouldn’t they have also said, “Hello?”
I don’t think a lot of people understand the history of Israel and Palestine. If they did, I don’t think they would have the viewpoints they do. Just because a book indicates it’s so, we should believe it? There’s a lot of things in the Bible that are up for debate. And why can’t people follow all the stuff about helping others in need and being humble? I especially like the part about praying in private. I don’t care what your religion or spirituality is as long as I don’t have to see you show it off.
It still amazes me that after almost three years and four months, people are still defending Jan. 6, 2021 as a peaceful protest but angry at people who are peacefully protesting against the Israeli-Hamas war. When you have police in riot gear attacking college students, it’s hard to defend the authorities. And it’s easier to see why Jan. 6 happened and could happen again if we’re not too careful.
There was a joke on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update that there’s similar riots and vandalism whenever a team wins a championship. So, what’s the difference? A lot of college spring commencement ceremonies have been canceled. For some, I would be pissed if I went four or five years to a college only to be told I couldn’t walk. But maybe some things are more important, as one upcoming college graduate told CBS News. Biden said the dissent is essential as long as it doesn’t lead to disorder.
Netanyahu says he won’t back down. It’s obvious that the minute Israel shows any leniency, the people might realize they don’t need him in office anymore. He needs his job now more than anything as the corrupt charges are still pending. I don’t condone the attacks by Hamas but has anyone entertain the idea the reason they did it because he was put back in power? I keep thinking the world might be different when Netanyahu, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are gone and no longer in power.
But then, I stop and think that it just might be a lot worse. I don’t want to spend the next 30-40 years of my life looking back on this as the better times. I think the kids of Ole Miss on both sides need to really wonder what type of world they want to live in as adults. You’re never going to do away with racism in America. And the only way to stop an “anti-white feeling” is to stop giving others the reason to have that feeling.
Yet, we have so many men going on the defense about a hypothetical situation of meeting a bear in the woods. That just goes to show how things have gotten in our society.
What do you think? Please comment.
