As the old saying goes, “When someone tells you who they are, believe them!”
Donald J. Trump has spent 77 years of his life telling people repeatedly who he is. But for some reason, a lot of people don’t want to believe them. I watched the Stormy Daniels documentary on Peacock and listened the audio book Full Disclosure this past week. I read it back in 2018 or 2019 when it came out. Funny how Trump has appeared in Playboy videos back when Daniels, real name Stephanie Gregory Clifford, was just growing up in Baton Rouge. Yet, who is the one who everyone wants to bad mouth?
This past week as he was issued a bond reduction and extension on that half of million he owes to the State of New York, Trump’s media Truth Social went public. At the same type, he promoted a special Bible priced at $59.99. If you’re wondering how this can happen, the books have been out since 2021 and feature the “Pledge of Allegiance,” the Declaration of Independence and other American documents. It’s called the “God Bless the USA” Bible.
I was actually kind of glad some people are coming out to blast thing. I’m not a religious person by no means. But watching people I know who pray and talk about God and Jesus coming out to blast Trump gives me hope that they won’t vote for him. President Joe Biden is a devout Catholic who goes to church regularly. I seriously doubt Trump wouldn’t go to church without having to post on social media about it. I also like President Jimmy Carter whose Sunday school classes would bring in the crowds. Carter, on the campaign trial, would invite members of the media in, as long as they left their cameras and notepads at the door.
The Bible uses the text from the King James Version, which is in public domain. It also includes writings by Lee Greenwood, who famously recorded “God Bless the U.S.A.” which became popular during the Persian Gulf War era of the early 1990s. Most pastors and Biblical scholars as well as historians, such as Jemar Tisbay, say this re-enforces the myth that America was founded as a Christian nation even though the First Amendment says Congress shall enact no set religion.
The FAQ website of the Bible clarifies that no proceeds will go toward Trump’s campaign while nothing is said about the legal defense. Money toward a political campaign has to be recorded and reported, which I don’t think Greenwood who has been milking the same silly song for over 30 years doesn’t want. However, monies to a legal defense don’t and since there’s probably a religious tax loophole, it doesn’t have to be reported how much if any helps Trump’s legal defense. But I wouldn’t doubt Trump isn’t get a present of the proceeds just to be a spokesperson. Trump might stiff other people on payments but I don’t think he would do this without a contract with how much he will get to the cent.
Trump obviously knows he won’t get more monies and votes if he doesn’t sell himself to the Christian Nationalist and evangelicals. Most will believe Trump is endorsing himself as a man who believes America is a Christian nation, even though it isn’t. The Hush Money trial is set to begin April 15 in regards to the Stormy Daniels case. People still believe that Trump only met with Daniels to discuss God and Christ with her way back in 2006. But what you can’t deny is the paper trail it left behind.
Whether or not it would’ve made a difference in 2016 is irrelevant now. A lot of Americans then had a grudge against the Obama Administration and this was the perfect way to get back at the rest of us. But after Trump’s endorsement of politicians has led to three consecutive losses in the last three general elections, why does the Republican Party continue to support him? The recent special election in a Montgomery, Ala. district led to the election of Marilyn Lands, a Democrat to the state’s house legislature. Lands flips a Republican-held district as she ran on abortion and women reproduction rights. The overturning of Roe v. Wade has been a major misfire for the party.
Trump may have looked like he has made billions over Truth Social being traded on NASDAQ but the Security and Exchange Commission reported the value is diminishing and could continue to dip if the popularity wears off. There are reportedly only about five million members of the social media platform. In February, Facebook reported over three billion members. Instagram has about two billion active members. Of course, a lot of these may be multiple accounts made by the same people.
It’s very miniscule in comparison. TikTok has about one billion active users. Last month, Congress passed a bill supported by Democrats and Republicans to ban TikTok in six months if its parent company, ByteDance, of Beijing, doesn’t sell its stake. However, the bill needs to go toward the U.S. Senate, where it could face bigger scrutiny. But there hasn’t been any news on the Senate would even consider any action on the measure at the time.
Even if the Senate does pass it and it goes to Biden, who has said he will sign it into law, it may still face a legal appeal in federal court. It’s crazy this is what Congress is most concerned about. Maybe they’re afraid of the popularity of the social media platform with younger people and younger voters. Let’s face it, young people aren’t on Facebook anymore. And that has politicians upset because they had Mark Zuckerberg as a bedfellow.
Four years ago when Facebook did a Super Bowl commercial with the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Chris Rock and others promoting all the groups they had available, I chuckled a little. In 2020, Facebook seemed to be preaching to the choir with this ad. It didn’t help that the Covid-19 pandemic and the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection coup attempt gave Zuckerberg and Co. one big headache of all the things that was spread on the platform.
TikTok grew in popularity thanks in part to the use of younger people. Then there were reports that a prank by users led to the inflation of numbers at Trump’s rally at the BOK Center in Tulsa on June 20, 2020. This caused organizers to think the event was going to full and they even prepared an overflow room. However, the rally wasn’t attended by near the amount of people they had intended. And worse, Herman Cain, a former Presidential candidate himself, who did attend the rally is believed to have contacted Covid at the event.
Following the 2020 election, it seemed Facebook along with Twitter to an extent was the arena were people spread the misinformation of the stolen election as well as planned to storm the Capitol Building. Then in 2022, Instagram and its parent company, Meta, tried to copy the style of TikTok in attempt to get more members. It failed.
So the question here is what do you do when you can’t steal customers away? Easy, you get rid of the competition. I wouldn’t put it past Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, who owns X, formerly Twitter, to be behind some lobbying to get TikTok banned. But if anyone who observed the Congressional hearings with TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew last year, it’s obvious people in Congress don’t understand the social media platform or the Internet in general.
This is like when the lamplighters rallied against the use of electricity or when movie studios openly criticized TV or when people in the 1990s said the Internet would be just a temporary fad. It’s all about deflection to get the people roused up.
On Sunday, President Biden acknowledged it’s also Transgender Day of Visibility. Because it’s the same day as Easter. I mean, wouldn’t the most Christian thing to do is to celebrate the love of all people? Of course not! The good news for so-called Christians is they don’t want to pretend anymore until the November elections roll around. I mean, Easter is basically a day like the Day of Visibility. We made it all up for a specific date.
Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox, which is why it happened on March 31. I mean we made up dates and everything. We even added another day this year because it’s a leap year. In 2025, Easter will be on April 20. Yes, Easter will be on 4-20. I’m sure Christians and Republicans will be mad about that too.
So much for remembering the teachings of Christ on Easter. Ramadan is also ongoing. Ironically, Jesus would’ve never celebrated Easter. He was Jewish, so he would’ve recognized Passover. But if you listen to Trump and Greenwood, we should only really care about America where Christianity is going down in numbers just like Truth Social.
