This past week, Donald J. Trump may have won the battle of the New Hampshire primaries but he’s losing the war. If you’ve been living under a rock on Mars, with your eyes closed, and your fingers in your ears, you probably missed out on the $83.3 million judgment against Trump in a defamation case against journalist/writer E. Jean Carroll, who he’s accused of sexually assaulting. This along would’ve ruined any other Presidential candidates chances. They would’ve bowed out quietly in shame.
Yet, Trump isn’t, mainly because he lacks the ability to remain quiet or any shame. And the Republican Party mostly won’t let him. It’s another month until the South Carolina primaries which will be the key factor if Nikki Haley, who came in second in New Hampshire will remain. Yet coming in second behind Trump at this point is the performers who appeared after The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Haley used to be governor of South Carolina. The question will be if the voters liked her so much to have her as governor to choose her to be the President.
It also gives the Republican Party one more month to “kiss the ring” as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis once said before he did it himself to Trump. Let’s face it, these bullying tactics Trump has done to DeSantis, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is juvenile at the most. But most Republican voters are juvenile in their mindset. And most legislators are as well. That’s why they’re focusing on the “dog whistle” foolishness of immigration, mainly brown-skinned people from Central America.
Earlier this month, Melania Trump’s mother, Amalija Knavs, passed away at 78. Knavs was another immigrant seeking refuge in America. But she’s white. During the Cold War, people defecting from the Soviet Union were quite common and you never heard anything about what we’re going to do. One more Russian who comes to America was another small battle won in the silly Cold War mindset. Yet we didn’t want any brown-skinned migrant workers coming here, despite the fact that their work helps keep the price of produce down.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that the State of Texas has to remove the razor wire it set up on its southern borders to stop migrants from crossing over. And there are people upset over this who went to church today to pray to one of the biggest migrants/refugees ever. The fact it took four Supreme Court justices to say maybe they deserve to be cut up and maimed for trying to come to this country through an area that used to be Mexico shows you just how messed up our society has become.
And it’s why Trump was elected back in 2016 to get back at people others felt they had been wronged by. That’s why they’re they’ve been trying to impeach President Joe Biden since Jan. 21, 2021. And that’s why they’re conflicted on how to handle the southern border like real legislators. A proposed legislation on tougher immigration laws is reportedly caught in a tug-of-war between Republicans who want to support and those who don’t want it appear a win for Biden if it’s approved. Trump is going to use this as a way to get himself more votes.
That’s because most of his fan base (poorly uneducated people, rural people and those over 55) still run around with a “They terk er jerbs!” mentality. Former Senator and Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has said Republicans don’t want the border issue solved this year as Trump can blame Biden. Texas is already going after people who were born in America, possibly of American parents but are of Mexican ancestry. They are obviously targeting brown-skinned people because that’s the way they can get the voters.
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) is also urging people not to make it about Trump vs. Biden. “It is immoral for me to think you looked the other way because you think this is the linchpin for President Trump to win,” he told reporters. The law is a bipartisan deal which is another reason Republicans oppose it as this Congress is on record being one of the least effective and productive legislative bodies ever. House Speaker Mike Johnson has said the House of Representatives will vote on whether to impeach Homeland Security Alejando Mayorkas because of the “handling of the southern border.”
In other words, it’s another deflection. They’ll do anything other than what they really should be doing. This is like the student who stalls as much as they can while giving an oral book report on something they didn’t read.
But going back to the campaign, there’s a reason immigration may be the Republicans Hail Mary. They’ve lost the last three general elections and Trump has twice lost the popular vote. He garnered over 176,000 votes or 54.3 percent of the votes on Tuesday in New Hampshire. Haley received over 140,000 votes or 43.2 percent. DeSantis and former New Jersey Chris Christie came in third and fourth respectively but even though they have dropped out, they still received a collective 3,700 votes that didn’t amount to anything. People threw their votes away just to refuse to vote for either Haley or Trump.
Ok, those might have been absentee votes before Christie and DeSantis dropped out. But poll numbers show that about 35 percent of registered Republicans wouldn’t vote for Trump if he’s the nominee. Biden received only 10 percent of registered Democrats saying they wouldn’t vote for him. But that’s a third of voters saying they don’t want Trump back in office. And almost 46 percent of New Hampshire voters said they don’t support Trump.
Now, the defamation case is another blow to Trump. He’s facing 91 criminal charges and a case in New York State to determine if he can even do business in the state anymore. And if the court hearing reports are similar to the defamation hearing, it looks like he won’t walk away from this one a winner. His legal team might be able to delay the criminal cases but it boils down to how much capital outlay he has to pay even one of his legal teams. He’s going to appeal the defamation judgment but that costs money to do.
Forbes reports Trump’s net worth is $2.6 billion. However, net worth is different than what you have in available funds. Just ask Elizabeth Holmes about the differences between net worth and real money. The Nevada caucus is on Feb. 8. But at this point in a Presidential campaign, it’s foolish to claim a front-runner. We’re not even out of January yet conservative pundits say Haley should drop put and kiss the ring too. It’s obvious the Republicans don’t have any better candidates than Trump or Haley. And if Haley does drop out and Trump stays in, that might be another reason for people to vote against him just to get rid of him once and for all.
I forget what book he wrote it in, but Hunter S. Thompson said part of the reason Jimmy Carter won in 1976 was that the Republicans were still suffering a black eye from the Nixon Administration, which they saw President Gerald Ford an extension of. During the Republican National Convention that year, it was contested between Ford and Ronald Reagan who would go on to win in 1980.
Republicans are now afraid to take the L which they should’ve done in 2016 and supported Ted Cruz. They could’ve rode Hillary Clinton’s case for four years and easily won 2020. It’s very likely Covid-19 would’ve still happened but they would’ve been able to use it as a way to show her ineffectiveness no matter what she did. Instead, it showed just how ineffective Trump has been.
Now, eight years later with many of those supporters in 2016 and 2020 switching parties or having passed away, the Republicans may have lost their best chance to stay alive a little longer. Biden recently won the support of the United Auto Workers which is a huge win for him. Younger generations are pushing for more unions and better wages. This was everything Reagan and the Baby Boomer generation hated as they expected younger people to “work their way up.”
Yet, the problem now is that rent is too high. Most Millennials and Gen Xers are having to have roommates. This might have been a thing in their 20s but not in their 40s. And Boomers still have a refusal to believe that Millennials are now in their 40s and Gen Xers are in their 50s and grandparents. And a lot of Gen Zers are now registered voters. Old talking points about immigration, gun rights, crime (that is actually decreasing year by year) and even the 2020 Election don’t matter much to people who still have to live with their parents and have to go to multiple job interviews over several weeks just for a place of employment that only pays $25,000 a year before deductions.
Do younger generations really want to support a racist, misogynistic sexual predator whose crooked business dealings are part of the reason they’ve had to watch their friends and classmate get shot and some employer wants them to take a two-hour skills test just for $7.50 an hour?
