“It was a peaceful protest.”
That’s the same mantra that has been spread for the past three years. On Jan. 6, 2021, many people stormed the U.S. Capitol Building with the intent to overthrow the certification of the Electoral Votes. There might have been some country bumpkins from the Tennessee/Kentucky borders in D.C. and suburbanites there from ritzy neighborhoods that would call 911 in a second if they saw the bumpkins anywhere nearby them. But there was also people there who were out for blood, literally. The ignorant people who got roped into it were collateral damage.
They were also a smokescreen. “Look at these people here. They’re not insurrectionists!” That has been the defense. It was always going to be the defense. The foolishness of people thinking it might have happened successfully is what’s terrifying. Some militia types thought they could pull it off and were willing to kill anyone in their way should be cause for concern for many. It should be concerning to the people who still defend Donald Trump and those who’ve been convicted because they would’ve been killed and harmed as well.
But now, they’re saying forget about Jan. 6. Polls say those convicted got harsh sentences. Considering that people died, felony murder could have been handed down. Yet, if someone in 2004 said, forget about 9/11, they would’ve been blasted for being called un-American. The problem is the Republican Party knows this is a shitburger and they got to take a huge bite of it. The longer they continue to support Trump means they are still defending him and what he did. And since they have lost the three general elections, it makes you wonder what they expect to happen.
Trump has already lost the popular vote twice. The American public has said twice – they do not want him as President. The only way he got in back in 2016 was through the outdated concept of the Electoral College. More people turned out in 2020 to put him out of office. And hopefully, they will again turn out to keep him from returning. The Iowa Caucus is on Jan. 15 and it’s likely he will win.
However, his mouth is still getting him in trouble. Following the recent school shooting in Perry, Iowa, Trump said people should “get over” the violence and “Move forward.” Considering that he sent out a social media post on Christmas Day telling his critics to rot in Hell, this is not as harsh. Don’t get me wrong! It’s awful for a person to say, especially if he expects the people of the state to support him. But Trump has only supported himself.
Yet the question is how much longer will people support someone who boasts how he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue in New York City and get away with it? Hopefully not much longer.
In closing, I would like to express my thoughts and condolences to those who died on Jan. 6,2021 or as a result of it and those who worked hard and put their lives at risk for this country. They are the true heroes, not the crybabies who get mad when things don’t go their way.
