I’m going to be brutally honest. I’m getting very tired of how bad things are getting. And while this might offend some, I think people need to quit letting their faith and religion dictate how things should work. Why can’t people just go to church on Sunday and be the usual hypocrites they were when I was growing up?
It looks like the issue in Israel isn’t getting any better. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his administration seems poised to basically squeeze Palestinians so hard they’ll die or slip out into other countries. Yes, there’s so much anti-Semitic rhetoric flying around that we seem to be overlooking the anti-Islamic rhetoric. And while I’ve posted about this earlier, it never amazes how many people in this country only support Israel because some the Bible says it’s their holy land.
Of course, as we end October, we officially have a new Speaker of the House with Mike Johnson, a Congressman from Louisiana who is like from Central Casting of what one would think of when you mention a devout Christian conservative middle-aged man from the South in this day. Just as Justice Neil Gorsuch seemed to fit the idea of what a conservative Supreme Court justice would look like, Johnson has a name that sounds like a conservative Christian name.
Johnson is also part of the MAGA cult and thinks the 2020 election was “stolen.” He objected to certifying the election results. He hates gay people because that’s all Christians are about these days. He thinks abortion is murder and climate change is a hoax. You name it, he’s following the current playbook to a T. And this only shows how the Republican Party is becoming more and more a mockery of itself.
Like Kevin McCarthy, Johnson is a Gen Xer and one of those who probably believed everything “that sumbitch Reagan” said as gospel. I’m sure he may have masturbated to the idea of Ron and Nancy doing the nasty. Ok, sorry for that image. But he did the good ole’ “Thoughts and Prayers” when referring to the shooting massacre in Lewiston, Maine.
When I was working in Americus, Ga., the Americus Police Department and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with a joint drug task force or something. Anyway, they made their firtst “big bust” and the sheriff at the time was talking about it like they just took down Al Capone. When I contacted the police chief, who had moved from the metro Atlanta area, he said that the bust was just a routine bust.
I feel that’s what these shooting massacres are going to become – routine. You’d think that with people who were in high school or college when events happened at Columbine High School and other places, most of them would work to figure out how to prevent it. But no. What we have is people still dividing over whether it’s a gun issue or whether it’s a mental health issue. Either way, it’s pointless because nothing will come about because of it if we do pinpoint it.
David Hogg, one of the survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Parkland, Fla. is treated like a terrorist by the right because he is a gun rights advocate. Even that crazy cunt Majorie Taylor Greene has intimidated him like he was a nobody. The man watched his friends and classmates get gunned down. He has as much of a right to say something than someone who hoists themselves up as a model of family values but has cheated on her spouse.
There’s no reason for anyone to have an AR-15 rifle. You can’t hunt with it. People say they use it for self-defense, but I heard people say get a shotgun that sprays buckshot. If you’re in a living situation, where you’re going to need a AR-15 rifle, maybe you need to reconsider your living situations. Most of the cases I covered in which people tried to break in, they knew the perpetrators. It’s likely people will break into your home if you live in a certain neighborhood, but these shootings aren’t happening there. And burglars aren’t dumbies, they’re not going to break into your home while you’re there. Most law enforcement will tell you someone will kick your door in and grab what they can see quickly.
No, these shootings happening at schools, churches, community events, stores, etc. Robert Card, who is the reported killer in Lewiston, fatally shot 18 people at the Schemengees Bar and Grille and the Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley about four miles away. A children’s bowling league was at Just-in-Time and some young people were killed. Of course, it’s pointless to say this to some, because the Sandy Hook Massacre left many people around 6-7 killed. And then, there was the massacre at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
Johnson and his Republican people may say they’re fighting for the rights of the unborn, but as George Carlin said “Once you’re born, you’re on your own…If you’re pre-born, you’re fine. If you’re preschool, you’re fucked.” And while Card reportedly had mental issues, we’re not going to do anything about mental health. Remember it was Reagan who got us in the situation we are with mental health people.
A lot of people suffer from mental health. They don’t harm anyone but themselves. A lot of people with mental health issues have a hard time getting out of bed everyday or leaving the house. Doctors say people with mental health are more than likely to become victims of violence. I have mental issues and anxiety. I have no desire to harm anyone. I never have. There is a danger out there and while we’re not ever going to fix the problem, we act like doing nothing is the best way to fix it.
Of course, Christians believe the Rapture is going to happen or they see what’s happening in Israel is a sign of End Times. To me, not doing anything because you think something that was written on paper that can’t be verified for authenticity is a sign of mental problems. I’d like to communicate with aliens or just people who have lived on a deserted iseland who have no concept of religion or violence and explain things to them. I’m sure it wouldn’t make a bit of sense.
It never surprises me how the “Christian” people love their guns. I mean, the walk around with a symbol of violence (the crucifix) around their necks and hang it on the walls to worship, so it seems natural they’d be all about stockpiling guns so they can shoot first and ask question later. We’ve even structured our laws to make sure they don’t have to ask questions later. The concept of love your enemies means fuck all if you’re going to be antagonistic to everyone around you.
And people carrying guns on their person when they’re shopping at Wal-Mart or Target or buying a Subway sandwhich shows just how antagonistic they can be. They’re saying, “I don’t trust anyone else.” And when you keep telling people to fear each other, they eventually decide to strike back. Reports say Card had paranoia and people had known and reported him but nothing was done.
Nothing is ever done because they always say that “Now isn’t the time to talk about it.” However, it’s always the time when other things happen. Right after 9/11, it was damn well time to make some changes to airport and airline security. Maybe what they mean by “time” is that they’re worried about their re-election chances. They can’t upset their political donors. So, it’s not the time and it’ll never be the time as long as we keep them in office.
What’s it going to have to take? Lewiston has a population of about 37,000 but only had three murders in 2022. Does the next mass killing got to obliterate a town’s population? On Oct. 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock shot and killed 60 people at a concert in Las Vegas. Do we have to get to double digits before something is done? For Christ’s sake, a lot of Congressmembers were nearly killed on Jan. 6, 2021 and they still act like it was nothing at all. We’re seeing mass killings in Israel and Palestinian areas but nothing is being done except more violence.
I keep being optimistic the same people in power will be dead and/or gone very soon and we’ll have the right people in office. Things always get worse before they get better. But the question is how much worse can they get?
