Is This Really, Really Trump’s End?

Well, the day most people had been waiting for since Jan. 7, 2021 finally happened. Donald J. Trump, who once held the position of President of the United States, finally was indicted for his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection coup attempt. A federal grand jury indicted Trump on the following counts:

  • Conspiracy to Defraud the United States – This references how he allegedly plotted with others to knowingly and criminally spread lies about the election with the intent to deceive the public
  • Conspiracy to Obstruct an Official Proceeding – This alleges Trump conspired to overturn the election through the false elector scheme, pressuring state officials to change vote counts, pushing the Department of Justice to make false claims and pushing former Vice-President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the election. As President of the Senate, Pence had that authority to ceritify the election on Jan. 6, 2021.
  • Obstruction of and Attempt to Obstruct an Official Proceeding – This mostly focuses on Trump’s alleged actions on Jan 6, 2021 to prevent the certification of the election, including directing a mob he knew to be armed to march on the Capitol and “Fight like hell.”
  • Conspiracy Against Rights – This alleges that Trump violated the civil rights of Americans by attempting to have their votes invalidated by overturning a free and fair election. The indictment also alleges Trump had six criminal co-conspirators in these felonies, but their names are not included in today’s indictment, and they have not yet been charged.

Trump is scheduled to arraigned in federal court in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, Aug. 3. This news comes as it was revealed that Trump had to recall about $60 million from a political action committee, Save America, to pay his legal fees. It’s a wonder how much longer Trump’s Presidential campaign for 2024 can last before it’s gets a lot worse. This is only August and there are 14 months until the general election. A lot can happen in those 14 months.

Another Presidential hopefull Will Hurd said what most people have been saying and thinking at the 2023 Lincoln Dinner over the past weekend. “Donald Trump is not running for president to make America great again. Donald Trump is not running to represent the people who voted for him in 2016 and 2020. Donald Trump is running to stay out of prison,” Hurd said as people booed him. Some people don’t want to hear what they need to hear.

Hurd went on to say that a vote for Trump would be a vote to keep Biden in the White House. The Republican Party has attached itself to Trump so much that they’ve lost the last three consecutive general elections. And with the Heritage Foundation trying to install a Christian Fascist Conservative regime with Project 2025, Trump may not be the candidate they want to stand behind. (I’ll do more on Project 2025 at a later post.)

People have been saying for years that every new nugget is Trump’s end. But could this one really solidify it? With six people co-cospirators named in the indictment, when will the first one make a deal against the others. People speculate the co-conspirators include his former lawyers Rudy Giuliani (who’s taken a huge nosedive in the 22 years since 9/11 where he was “America’s Mayor), Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro and John Eastman along with Jeffrey Clark, a Justice Department official.

This is the type of indictment you don’t monkey around with. Trump has said that even if he’s convicted and sent to prison, he is still going to run for President. Both Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, who are both running for President as well, say they will pardon Trump. But it may be empty promises to get new donors. This is a very serious deal for Trump, one he’s probably going to lose a lot of sleep over from now until Thursday and beyond.

If he’s convicted, it won’t be a stop to the Big Lie, but it might make some people look elsewhere as Hurd has said they need to. It’s been eight years this June since Trump rode down the escalator and suddenly became the Republican’s favorite golden calf. But there is a huge divide in this country over political differences between Gen Zers and Boomers. It’s been projected that at least seven million more Gen Zers will be eligible to vote in 2024. A maximum of nine million voters is possible. Why else are Republicans fighting like hell in many state legislatures to make it harder for people to vote?

This is why Heritage is so adamant on Project 2025, which will basically turn America into Nazi Germany. The conservative political movement is one that has aged out. Even Sen. Mitch McConnell has shown signs of aging. Even Vladimir Putin is now 70. Nothing lasts forever. People are growing tired. Even in a state like Oklahoma, normally a red conservative hotbed, the Republicans are fighting amongst themselves as the Gov. Kevin Stitt is trying to squeeze the tribal nations for more money even though they have given the state over $200 million in 2022 alone.

Empires crumble from within. Greed and a thurst for absolute power is usually how they all end. Could this be the beginning of the end?
