In the nearly 45 years I’ve been alive, I’ve learned that people tell you exactly what they’re thinking when they’re angry. There’s no censor because our emotions get the best of us. Sadly, the Republican Party in America has gotten so angry, they’ve lost that censor a long time ago. These past few weeks, they have really gone overboard.
I’m going to start with the least outrageous thing that’s happen. And that involves Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) being videotaped tossing a pamphlet into the trash a few seconds after she was handed it. The pamphlet calls for gun reform and features Maite Rodriguez, one of the 19 children killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. At 10, Maite’s body was so horribly disfigured by the gunfire that she was reportedly identified by the green shoes she wore. Boebert was handed the pamphlet in the hallway and immediately tossed it into a wastebasket as she passed by one on her right.
Anti-gun activist Sarah Fishkind filmed this interaction. And it’s been posted and shared throughout the Internet so there’s no way to make it up. It’s heartless and cold. But it’s what we’ve come to expect from someone like Boebert. And the last thing I want to do is to defend her but it’s possible she only saw the anti-gun stuff and just junked it. A more considerate thing would’ve done to at least put it in with the other stuff she was carrying and just forget about it later.
But Boebert doesn’t care about gun reform. She’s a cold, heartless woman who lucked into the position because of her position on guns. She nearly lost her re-election and that’s made her bitter. Now, it’s possible her and her sons are the victims of domestic abuse. That might explain her behavior but it doesn’t excuse it. She clearly doesn’t need to be in Congress with such an outrageous agenda she lacks sympathy for people who were murdered.
Boebert’s former BFF Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) who has taken such a strong stand against pornography on the Internet shocked everyone by showing images of what could be Hunter Biden having sexual relations with a woman. This happened on the floors of Congress. First and foremost, this at least should be public indecency. Second, it was done without the approval of Hunter Biden, if it’s him, which it reportedly is. Therefore, it is considered “revenge porn.” This is against the law in Washington, D.C.
Biden, through his attorneys, have filed a complaint with the Offices of Congressional Ethics. “None of her actions or statements could possibly be deemed to be part of any legitimate legislative activity, as is clear from both the content of her statements and her conduct and the forums she uses to spew her unhinged rhetoric,” Abbe Lowell, attorney for Biden, wrote.
But the bigger issue for the Republican Party is how come House Oversight Committee Chair Jamie Comer (R-Ky.) didn’t reprimand her? It’s because he realized the damage had already been done. The right people are going to see this and they’re going to make their own conclusions. Also, Comer doesn’t face any condemnation from his own party for telling her how wrong it is. Yet, there are reports Greene may have sent it out in a newsletter in her email to minors.
I’m just wondering if there is one brave minor out there willing to come forth. Everyone knows what’s going to happen. The Republican Party and Newsmax, Fox News and OAN will go after this child for whatever they have done since the time they ate paste in kindergarten. Considering the intolerable hatred for Hunter Biden, I doubt this will come forth.
The hearing was focused on IRS agents who claimed that the Justice Department took too long in investigating Biden on tax fraud. Greene claims to have produced the images to show that he was engaged in sex trafficking and using it as a tax write-off. However, the testimony produced no actual evidence.
In other parts of the country, attorney generals from 19 states have drafted a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services basically asking for HIPAA to be violated so they can have access to health information in the event women travel to other states to get abortions where it’s legal. This is an overreach many should be worried about. There are no restrictions in crossing state lines unless a judge has issued it. Normal law-abiding citizens can travel freely among the United States.
This is an attempt to punish women who get abortions in other states. Not only does it violate the patient’s right to privacy but it also tries to extend jurisdiction. Medical cannabis is legal in Oklahoma. Recreational cannabis is legal in Colorado. Neither is legal in Kansas which both states border. So, if someone from Kansas takes a trip to Colorado and they buy and smoke cannabis and have nothing on their possession when they step foot back in Kansas, they can’t be charged for something they did in another state that is perfectly legal.
On the flip side to this, it also means you can’t have a full arsenal of illegal firearms that a state like California forbids when visiting but a state like Oklahoma allows. But they don’t see it that way. Going after women who get abortions in other states will create a legal precedent we don’t need. I doubt the Department will even consider the pros and cons. This is obviously a scare tactic to keep people from going to other states. But it’s obvious this is what Republicans want – total control over people.
And it’s no where near what pro-lifers say about protecting the rights of children. They don’t. You need only to look to the Texas southern border to see how this isn’t true. Gov. Greg Abbott, who has proven that he doesn’t give a fuck about anyone unless their rich and powerful and can help him, ordered the installation of ballards, or bouys, in the Rio Grande. These have razor wire around them that is to prevent people from trying to climb over them.
The Justice Department has warned this violates the Rivers and Harbors Act. Abbott has said this is what needs to be done to protect the southern borders. And even though more people have been stopped at the southern borders trying to smuggle drugs into the counry under the Biden Administration than the Trump Administration, the narrative from Republican is that Biden isn’t doing enough to keep brown-skinned people out. Abbott has also ordered Texas troopers not even to offer bottled water to the people coming from Mexico as Texas is having a recorder summer heatwave.
Republicans have obviously become a political party based on racism and prejudice. In Florida, the Education Department is trying to rewrite history to say that the centuries of slavery weren’t bad because people still learned skills that were beneficial. There are so many things wrong with this from the state and its psychopath of a governor, Ron DeSantis. First off, after slavery ended, there was about 100 years or so when African-Americans were treated horribly for these skills and benefits during the segregated Jim Crow era. Once they had to be paid for their services, they suddenly became lazy and ungrateful.
It’s also trying to sugarcoat the effects of slavery on people to make white people look less evil. There’s been so much said about the Lost Cause (the belief that the Civil War WASN’T caused by slavery) this is another way to drive a wedge into middle school students during their formative years. While some people might believe this horseshit, there are books, movies, documents and so much more available that proves otherwise.
And lastly, this is the typical narcississm that is American Exceptionalism – that good things always come from bad things, so it was good to have it. This is like that sports coach, teacher, or boss you might have had who takes a victory lap on your success that they had nothing to do with. This is the “I pushed you to succeed” mentality they have. Abuse is abuse and you can’t sugarcoat it. These skills enslaved people may have learned came from the threat of violence or even death.
The Republican Party has even come forth and said they intend to more or less do away with the idea of checks and balances if a Republican is elected to the Presidency in 2024. They’re arguing they need to give more control to the President so that this person can effectively do the job. But this is just a gateway for a dictatorship. Nazi Germany didn’t start out changing everything overnight. It took many, many baby steps. Gradually, they changed things to the point there was no turning back without a full-on war.
The ironic part is this is exactly what the Republican Party was supposed to be against in its early days of conservatism during the Cold War. They have proven time and time again they do not care whatsoever about human rights and Trump’s people have even said they will go after political adversaries. The calls are coming from inside the house. The more we saw it won’t happen, the more likely it will happen.
