While watching a Congressional hearing where Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) asked the Democrats to remember the “decorum” of the House of Representatives as House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), someone online commented it was started to appear like the British Parliamant. While I’m admit, we’re sliding into the United Kingdom’s mentality of “Not too bad all things considered” form of government, it reminds me of another thing. The U.K. has different campaign procedures that we should at least take under consideration.
It’s not even June and already both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis have both announced their candidacies for the Office of President. It’s almost 18 fucking months until the 2024 general elections. That motherfucker Trump even waited until June of 2015 before announcing his candidacy. And remember how more peaceful it seemed? They’re not the only ones who have announceds their candidacies. Others include former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.).
If we don’t put a stop to this right now, we’re going to have people announcing their candidacies before the fucking President even has their inauguration. DeSantis reportedly received over $8 million in campaign contributions within 24 hours. It’s obvious all this is a cash grab by these candidates to get some money now before it’s too late. But maybe we should take a cue from the U.K. and make it illegal to announce or campaign until a certain date. In the U.K., they can’t campaign prior to five weeks (or 25 working days) before the election.
To do such a thing in America would cause a full-blown riot for some. But it would give the rest of us the peace and quiet we need in this country. Imagine what it would be like to not even hear about campaigns and politicial advertisements until well into September of an election. It would never happen. All political parties would be against it. Granted the U.K. has over 67 million according to a 2021 statistics compared to the 331 million in America. Also, the land mass of the United States is far more in scope.
Five weeks would be virtually impossible to make sure all 50 states and teroritories have all they need with the updated information to have a fair election happening without the least amount of problems imaginable. Most states have their ballots being printed well before five weeks from any election, especially one so massive as that for President. Most states have their primaries and run-offs earlier in the summer now to make sure there is enough time during the late summer and early fall months. But it’s not impossible for us to pass legislation guarenteeing no one is allowed to announce their candidacies and accept campaign contributions until a certain date.
If we have a system in place that can put millions of dollars into millions of people’s EBT accounts at 12 a.m. on certain dates, we have a system in place that can prevent people from campaigning until 12 a.m. on a certain date. It might even make it more fun. Who’s candidate will get the most views and biggest contributions within a 24-hour period would be interesting. Wouldn’t you like to see Trump literally shit in his pants during a live stream broadcast shortly after midnight knowing someone else is getting more views and money over him?
As for Trump and DeSantis, the two have been at each other’s throats for months. Yet, while the Republican Party is priming DeSantis as their next golden boy, voters may still be wanting to Trump. DeSantis may be popular in Florida but he’s not so popular the rest of the country. Florida has a higher population of white people over 65. These have traditionally supported Trump more.
But who knows how many will still be alive come November of 2024? Earlier this year, Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade tried to draw up support for DeSantis by focusing on several senior citizens at a local restaurant who all mostly voiced their support for Trump. The 45th President is able to draw up support that DeSantis can’t. Many people see DeSantis as too young and trying to ride Trump’s coattails.
With the New York courts in Manhattan having set the date for the trial in the criminal charges against Trump for March 25, 2024, it could have a bigger impact on his campaign. The Republican Party has lost the last three general elections with many pointing the finger at Trump. This is the hardest part for the Republican Party. They may have to sell the candidate they don’t want. I remember at a family Christmas dinner, they had bought my cousin’s young son a simple kids’ fishing pole and a remote control truck. He liked the fishing pole over the truck. And that’s how it goes sometimes.
If the majority of Trump voters want to support him, they will even if he runs as an independent, which the GOP doesn’t want. If the majority of Republican voters want to support Trump, they will even if it will spell a defeat. I don’t like see a Trump/DeSantis ticket. Things may change. With Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, being sentenced to 18 years for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection coup attempt, Trump’s glory days are fading.
And the Republican Party may have to accept the cold hard facts which are as follows:
- Trump is losing his popularity and a criminal conviction may cost him votes in swing states.
- DeSantis isn’t too popular with most people both in and outside of Florida.
- Boomers are literally dying off and even Gen Xers numbers are dwindling. These two mostly supported Trump.
- Moms for Liberty and other faith-based conservative groups are causing a huge divide with religious groups and educators.
- Millennials and Gen Zers are two of the highest growing voting populations and they aren’t supporting the GOP.
The Republican Party needs to win in 2024, not just the House and Senate but the White House. Otherwise, they’re not going to cease to exist much longer. The Libertarians are gathering a lot of steam from conservatives who are mad at the GOP. It’s very likely we could see a Libertarian President as early 2028 depending on how the next election goes. And I feel the GOP fears this. They’re already a party of minority of voters who have used gerrymandering to stay in power.
If a Libertarian President wins in 2028 and more win in the 2024 and 2026 elections, it can cause some major changes following the 2030 Census that can change voting districts across America. And it’s very likely, the GOP will be gone in 10 years. Even Republicans in Texas have had enough and they voted to impeach their attorney general Ken Paxton.
It’s even worse for DeSantis. Despite the fact that he’ll be 46 by the 2024 general elections, if he doesn’t get the nomination, this could be his one and only shot at the White House. Governors in Florida can’t serve more than two terms. Will people even still remember who he is by 2028 even if he’s starts his campaigning right after he leaves office in 2027? A lot can happen in 18 months. A lot more than happen in four or five years.
